Individuals are too self absorbed in their daily lives, routines, family, and own personal struggles to be able to reach out to other's. They find that they've served their fellow man by giving a dollar to a homeless man, some clothes to salvation army, or by just recycling. Some don't even do that due to being overly self-centered. It's not nature, however, but how we are raised and the values implemented during our upbringing. If we were taught to not be so self absorbed, and to lend that helping hand we would come together as a society.
At this stage, we as a whole are far too primal to have everyone accept this. People are segregated, discriminative, materialistic, vain, etc... And it would take years of mental evolution to fix a world filled with problems. Aside from our own personal grief and lack of response on this forum in Darfur, and many other places around the world people are helplessly dying and being victims to bigger enemies. Yet, we sit idle.
The only time we get proactive is when there is gain for us, and this is true of most individuals and society as a whole. We are all fighting our own personal wars and turmoils daily. Struggling to get no where. Working and fighting to climb a ladder that is invisible. In a 100 years none of this will matter nor will any of these conflicts.
The only solution is to teach and implant into our children core values to help, listen, and get proactive about the society they are in. So everyone can help one another. Peace like this, however, is just a pipe dream that will probably never be attained. Atleast not in our lifetimes.

I take it you're talking about this forum? Then, several reasons come to mind:
1.Some questions are obviously leading, insulting, false, repetitive,or simply don't make sense. It's as if they were asking for an insensitive answer.
2.Some people-questioners and answerers both-seem to be here to show off their wit, intelligence(?), or to promote a certain political, religious, or social agenda. They use their remarks to do this-whether appropriate or not. If you're not interested, its best to ignore these.
3.Some people are just overly sensitive. They see a hidden agenda in Almost EVERY answer or question.
4.Sometimes people will make tragic mistakes, through a misunderstanding.
You didn't ask for advice, but I'll just say, briefly; give the benefit of the doubt when you can, ignore obvious fakes, and remember; this is only one of many ways to get advice and information, and a new one at that. Try not to take it too seriously! And have a sense of humor-it can be contagious!

Curious that you mention this because I´m reading a book about the History of Crime by Colin Wilson and there´s a chapter dedicated to indifference. You´ll find it very interesting. It speaks about much more than crime but about human behavior. Basically, loyalty is directed to family and friends, but watching injustice being served triggers empathy in a human. Actually the author says that crowding stresses an individual and that if the human beings were not as social as they are, there would be much more crime, and society would be impossible. Indifference is a reaction in the human brain, a state by which one can do the most horrible things without getting a trauma from one´s actions. Many crimes against humanity (notoriously Stalin´s and Hitler´s) were executed not by their hands but by subordinates who fell into a state of indifference to be able to go on with their orders. This is not to say that their orders made their actions right. It says that they are the mechanisms by which horrors could be perpetrated by normal people. In the case of YA, many members do not feel anything else than indifference because they are incapable to relate to the others on line. If they had the opportunity to say what they write to the face of their targets, most would desist because it´s different to see someone else´s reaction to one´s words. Man is basically an empathic creature, it is either a reduced perception device that impedes empathy or the mental sickness of a monster. Anyway, I don´t think there are monsters online. Just selective impermeability.

If you have one good friend consider yourself lucky. I have to agree with a lot of what you are saying .
Cold as it may seem (are those that have provoked it) Its really sad that so many have lost the most important things in life,Human compassion . There time will come and one can only hope that they feel the way they have made others feel . People are cold and selfish for the most part . Unless there is something in it for them to gain . Until they have felt what they dealt nothing will change.

Self preservation is a *****. We aren't meant to care about what happens to people we don't know. A world in which we would have to care means we would never know happiness, as we would all would exist in a state of constant empathy for the unfortunate plights of those that are dying, or starving, or suffering. Empathy means you cannot help but to feel the pain of others, and who wants more than the normal dose of that?

Most people are caring, but there are always a few who feel the only way to respond to emotion is to be hard. Whether this is to avoid pain, to avoid confronting themselves or because they are simply immature, it's hard to say.
But in all seriousness, if you allow yourself to feel embittered or affected by them, you give them a power they do not deserve in your life.
Concentrate on the positive individuals and basically ignore the rest.
Like classroom bullies, they cannot survive without the oxygen of your attention.
Best wishes :-)

SWEETIE, AS LONG AS THERE ARE PEOPLE, SOME OF THEM WILL BE MEAN SPIRITED AND NASTY AND WITHOUT CONSCIOUS.THAT IS THE WAY OF THE WORLD. THE BEST YOU CAN DO IS CHOOSE TO IGNORE THEM. DON'T DWELL ON THEM. INSTEAD, THINK OF THOSE THAT ARE HELPFUL AND CARING. THERE ARE SOME OF US OUT THERE TOO I HAVE ALWAYS HELPED ANYONE AND EVERYONE I COULD. I THINK THAT IF WE LIVE LONG ENOUGH, THE TABLES WILL TURN, AND THE PROBLEM COULD VERY WELL BE OURS. I HAVE HAD MY SHARE OF PROBLEMS, AND I HAVE KIDS, AND I KNOW THAT SOME OF THEIR FRIENDS SAY THAT THEIR MOMS AND FAMILY NEVER HAVE ANY TIME FOR THEM AND MAKE LIGHT OF THEIR PROBLEMS, BUT I TRY TO LISTEN AND HELP THEM FIND A WAY TO DEAL WITH WHATEVER HAS COME UP. I THINK IF WE DON'T HELP EACH OTHER, THIS WORLD CAN ONLY GET WORSE. I SOMETIMES GIVE GROCERIES OR CLOTHES, OR HUGS, OR WHATEVER IS NEEDED. IF I NEED SOMETHING, IT SEEMS TO ALWAYS TURN UP. MY GOD TAKES CARE OF ME THAT WAY. WE SHOULD NEVER LET THOSE WHO HAVE TERRIBLE SPIRITS BRING US DOWN FOR THEY ARE SELFISH, AND WE CAN HELP EACH OTHER AND MAKE A BETTER WORLD IN SPITE OF THEM JUST IGNORE THEM AND READ THE GOOD ONES.

1 They are in denial about life and unsympathetic
2 Damage people hurt others!
3 They lack wisdom.
4 They have no relationship with GOD, or any respect of power and authority.
5 They hate any form of honesty, the most inherited, quality that's needed for improvement.
6 There judgment is impaired due to years, of abusing drugs including alcohol.
7 There judgment is impaired because of being victim of abuse, therefore they don't have good information.

Once again I'll bring up this point. Simply check out all your reality shows. Sooner or later these people will turn on one another. This unfortunately is human nature. That's why we have the saying:
You can't please everyone all the time.
Some of these people are young and could care less. It's their idea that they have the world by the b*lls, they are dragging it around on a downward swing and will remain this age forever.
I have news for these people.
