acermill is exactly correct. Forget the synthetics. You get NOTHING for the extra cost. Have two 4 liters at over 200,000 miles and have lived at 5000 mile oil changes and 30 w oil..but live in the South.
Recently there have been changes to reduce the antiwear additive, you can find on the net, of Zinc to get longer converter life. This is or was the main anti wear additive. There are cases now of after market cams such as Crane and Comp and others having premature lob failure. I personally have switched to Diesel Rotella, which is still high in Zinc.
Want to spend a little more money, get the best oil filter you can afford.
My two cents but I sleep better at night.
Good Luck

There is no point in wasting money on any synthetic oil. Conventional oils lubricate just as well. A few years back, Consumer Reports did an exhaustive test using assorted oils in NYC taxicabs, which is about as severe a level of service as one can find.

There were NO differences between wear and performance in cabs using assorted conventional oils vs all the synthetics.

Don't fall for the hype that you don't have to change your oil regularly either. ALL oils eventually build up an unacceptable levels of engine combustion byproduct, and must be changed with some regularity. Dirty Mobil 1 or similar is no better than dirty conventional oil.

Mobil 1. In an experiment they ran the stuff in an engine for 130,000 miles (changing the oil in regular intervals of course) then tore it down. The bore marks inside the cylinders were still there! The only problem you might have is that it breaks down the sludge in the engine (including sludge stopping up gasket leaks) so you might have to throw in an extra quart once a month or so.

None. I've got over 215K miles on my 4.0. I use Castrol or Valvoline. I Change it every 4500 miles. I have seen test where the synthetic oil gains more hp. But it was only a 2-3 hp gain.

If you have a drag car and want to get every hp out of it that you can then get a synthetic. But for every day driving, off-roading and towing stick with conventional oil.
