Once again, we see a stiuation where God gets to do some atrocious thing and blame somebody else for it. Like the wrestling guy who bashes his opponent in the back with a chair while the ref isn't looking, and then throws his hands in the air and shakes his head in innocence when the ref turns toward him. God did that in Job, too, by having Satan do all that nasty stuff to Job.

Owl, you're off by a few centuries. This was referring to the first Passover, in Moses' time. You see, Moses told Pharoh that by his own words would his next decree against the Israelites be brought against his own people. When Pharoh ordered the murder of the firstborn of Israel, the curse was turned against the firstborn of Egypt. Apparently, Pharoh wasn't a good listener. So you see, God gets away with another atrocity.

Well, some people might place the blame on the King, but remember God hardened his heart, so God made him say "no" so all the kids would die. The God of Abraham saw the children of the Egyptians as expendable to prove his point. This probably really didn't happen though. If it did, there probably would have been record of this happening. Times of famine were recorded, so I would imagine that some mention of this would have been recorded. Especially since the Egyptians had a lot of literature for the afterlife, about the dead, and even wrote letters to the dead! If anything, wouldn't there be a disproportionate date with a lot of death that only first-borns died?

I asked a priest this question once. Here's what he told me (paraphrased to my understanding):

It's a matter of perspective. Maybe the firstborn of Egypt did no wrong and in asking this question, we are seeing it from the point of view of perhaps the Egyptians who just lost their children to the death.

The bible, however, is written from the point of view of the Israelites. During that episode, the Israelites were slaves under the Egyptians. In the eyes of the Israelites, Almighty God was punishing their oppressors and helping to free them from slavery.

Pharaoh entered into a contest with God, through Moses.
Each plague represented God's superiority over one or more of the Egyptian gods. The plague of the first-borns was the final victory, after MANY victories. All Pharaoh's advisors and wise men had counseled Pharaoh to release the Jews prior to this final plague. Pharaoh's pride kept him from doing so, and the cost to Egypt was enormous.
God murdered no one.
Pharaoh made the choice, KNOWING
the likelihood of defeat.

Apparently, innocent blood was shed by god in order to prove a point. You would think that there would be another way to resolve the situation, other than violence, but I suppose just talking to the Pharaoh would be too much for god.

Egyptians didn't have abortion and God needed to cut down on the numbers of Egyptians.

I don't know where you got the idea that it was God who murdered those babies but rather it was Pharaoh who murdered these babies in an attempt to murder Jesus
