Which is better? Charter or DIRECTV?

DirectTV is darn good. I get over 130 channels with the expanded basic plus an additional premium package which adds another 15 channels. Each additional receiver is only about 5 bucks per room.

OH! I failed to mention that I got a free TIVO recorder with my order. I don't know if they are still doing that.

I don't have any rainstorm problems like the other guy and I am not in the TV or cable business like the other guy. I am just a satisfied DirectTV customer.

It's hard to say at this point. Satellite systems are adding capacity for more HD channels. Cable systems say that are upgrading too. It seems like it will depend on what trade-offs they make between number of channels and quality. Given a fixed amount of bandwidth, more channels are only possible by decreasing the quality of the individual channels (by more compression).

In any case, the best quality HDTV will be over-the-air. Cable and satellite systems can only match, not exceed, the quality of over-the-air TV. More likely, they will be worse.

DISH IS BETTER than Direct-TV, especially in rainstorms....

I had both, and Dish never lost it's signal during rain....
Of course, I have to let you know the Direct-TV had rainstorm problems because the casing on the outside LNA was cracked and water got into the LNA killing the signal...once they replaced it, it worked just as well as DISH did....

Charter is ok, but THEY DECIDE what stations they will offer you....Satellite systems let YOU DECIDE what you want....

I would say Direct TV only for the Sports especially NFL ticket but it is rather expensive. They say that Direct TV will have more HDTV channels in the future, but that may be not all that true
