First of all these are all in the Old Testament but if you want a possible answer well how about this
God demands that we kill everyone who works on the Sabbath day.
God said Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy (set apart). Six day you shall labor and do all your work but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord.
God demands that we kill disobedient teenagers
Honor your father and mother that your days may be long in the land...
God demands the death of homosexuals
In this passage God is pointing out sexual deviants that should not be practiced...It is about being Holy (set apart; different from all others because they believe what God said)

First off Exodus, Leviticus, Deuteronomy were all given to the tribes of Israel as Gods chosen people. They were to obey His rules and represent Him to other nations. Second the people were not innocent they were breaking God's laws therefore guilty. As He created them He makes the rules. Also if people did not break the rules then there would not be any killing. Third it is not murder to punish someone for breaking laws. Forth if you read elsewhere in Bible you will see that Jesus died for the sins committed. And the Gentiles were not called to follow all the laws of OT. That was the covenant with Israel. Lastly God's laws are not trivial matters

the OT is the NT concealed.
the NT is the OT revealed.
it makes perfect sense.
of course, you have to study your bible to understand.
in the OT, God was trying to show us over & over that it's all about obeying HIM.
the OT lived under the Law. there were 100s of rules you had to live by or else you were in sin.
there were sooooo many rules, no one could live w/o sinning.
so, 1ce each year, the high priest would enter into the tabernacle of God after having sacrificed an innocent, spotless animal & washed in it's blood for purification.
he would then enter into the holiest of holies, where the ark of the covenant was kept & he would "roll" the sins of the people ahead 1 year. they were in a forgiven state for 1 year by doing this.
this is a quick explanation of the "tabernacle plan" which is a type & a shadow (that is, an example) of baptism in the NT.
it would be of great benefit to you, if you would study God's Word.

God was talking to Israel before Jesus. He wanted them to come to know Him and the only way that it could happen was if those who sin-ed were gotten rid of.
Through Jesus God dealt with our sins so it is no longer a requirement. Still sin with out repentance will lead to ones destruction as all sin has consequences. If you are born again then you may only lose you rewards that the Father has stored up for you in heaven but if not then your punishment will be never ending. Seek Jesus and you will find His love as he died for you and if you trust in Him He will guide your path. Ask Him into your heart knowing that life will not get easier but it will be more rewarding and He will make your path straight.

In any case, who so ever did not obey God WAS NOT INNOCENT at all, they were guilty, sinners and since God just started a covenent with them, and they wanted God to be their God, it would have been normal to OBEY Him.
But just remember, no one is innocent, and all who are not innocent will die (if not physically right away, it is spiritually that they are dead)
Of course that was to the jews of the new covenent of the time in the old testament, sins were washed away for anyone who say they believe, since Jesus DIED for our sins. He actually died for all those who disobey the Lord so today you don't have to physically die for your sins. but you must repent and change your ways.
Remember, God is perfect in all that He is, thinks, does, applies, on the other hand we are totally unperfect, so the question should wrather be: Why do we question God when we are mearly little grains of dust with no intelligence and can't understand what comes from perfection? (until we are filled with the Holy Spirit, then we get to understand the heart of God, His thoughts and actions.)
We are His creation, and we belong to Him and not ourselves so He can do with us what ever He wants, especially since we have sinned, and He has given us the perfect way out, and we keep on sinning... And refuse His way... We don't deserve to live!
Read more of the Bible, ask God to reveal Himself to you and He will if you are honnest. As He did to all the true christians.

God may have required such for the nation of Israel, 3,000 or so years ago, but today we are no longer under the Law.
Grace and mercy rule today because of what Jesus Christ did on the cross.

Well I actually find it all to be completely rational. I mean, can you actually tell me of anything more loving than murdering anyone who works on Sunday?
Sad thing is, some parts of the US are still so backwoods ancient, that they still follow crap like this. In Minnesota, you aren't allowed to buy a car or purchase any alcohol on Sunday. I bet god was at the congressional hearings when those laws were passed.
Gotta go, I need to follow god's plan, and hunt down the local heathen teens and gays.

Because the idea of the christian god was a man-made creation during a time when the rulers wanted to have greater control over the people. So they created a fictional story about an almighty, wrathful ruler who will banish anyone who DOESN'T OBEY to moral standards to a fiery eternal hell... These stories instilled fear in the people, of course. When people fear for their lives and are afraid of their mortality and death and the unexplained, they tend to have blind faith.

All Old Testament intended for the early Hebrews and not todays Christians. BTW God made everybody and He is not to be questioned in any regard. He has His perfect will and He will accomplish it
