Im trying to wire a four channel amp to four car speakers... my main question is, is it possible to connect the speaker wires to the head unit harness instead of having to go to each speaker?

Certainly; that will work perfectly well. Of course, you need to make sure that the speaker wiring is disconnected from the head unit, or you'll damage the head unit and/or the amp.

The advantage to running new wire for each speaker is that the new wiring is typically thicker than stock speaker wiring. However, in my experience, the sound quality difference is minimal between using stock wiring and using new wire.

Note that if you're going to connect to the speaker wiring behind the head unit, you need to be 100% certain that the vehicle isn't equipped with a factory amp. Many people don't realize that their factory system includes an amplifier.

yes, you would run the rca's to your amp like normal, then run each speaker wire back to your stereo.. but connect them to the harness where you would normally connect the stereo.. make sure that the speakers wires from the stereo are not connected and taped off to prevent the wire to short out on anything.
