Actually the choice is eternal life or eternal death. A choice requires only two alternatives in order to qualify as a choice. BTW, what is UR choice?

God never says obey or die, the Bible doesn't say it, Jesus doesn't say it. Some big haired television preachers may say it but they say a lot of things. God desires relationship with humanity, and those who choose to live in relationship with God are called to love God, and to love others.

He could just say "Obey". But He does not say "Obey or Die". He says, " Love the Lord thy God with thy whole mind and thy whole heart and thy whole soul. And love thy neighbor as thyself."
Obviously some do not obey thes two commandments, and yet they live. They may die later, but, don't we all?
Maybe it means something else. Maybe it means if we obey Him He will claim us as His, and if we ignore Him, He will ignore us, with all that bad stuff that being ignored by Him brings.

The choice isn't 'obey or die'. DUH.
sfbcaptain: That is the dumb. Omniscient doesn't negate free will. Think about it.

But what if no decision we make, leads to God? Then we can have plenty of free will, it all leads to the same place. God would have to reach out to us, though, and most people can't seem to handle that. They want to be the ones to reach to God, so they claim free will in order to do it.

That's not the contradiction. The contradiction stems from having an omniscient creator. That is what makes free will impossible.

you can choose to live as you please while alive on the earth....
follow Him, live by His rules, obey the Gospel to ensure your salvation to reap great rewards in heaven for eternity ... or live like you want now, & suffer in hell for eternity.
it seems fair to me seeing as He (being God) humbled Himself by wrapping Himself in flesh, was tortured & crucified on a cross just for you... & me.
you belong to the world... satan's world, until you are born again. after that, you are not your own ... you were bought with the price of our Savior's blood.
if you don't live by His rules, then He has the right to cast you out into the place that burns with fire & brimstone & to be forever tortured in the presence of His holy angels.
sounds fair to me.
if you were the Creator & Savior of the world, i guess you could make up your own rules.
but since you are not ... i think it best to play by HIs.

The choice is obedience, or disobedience.
(God's way, or my way?)
Consequences are off the table.
Do you choose good, or evil.
That is a free will choice.
