What are you saying? That religion is or should be provincial?
The reason they share many of the same regions is because they share a common ancestry.
The Book of Genesis is sacred to 3 religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. These 3 religions are the "Abrahamic religions". The 6 key biblical figures before Abraham – Adam, Eve, Cain, Abel, Enoch and Noah – are revered by all 3 religions, as well.
Moses, Jesus and Muhammad are all claimed to be descendants of Abraham through one of his sons. Abraham is: the patriarch of Israel to the Jews; a major prophet to the Muslims; and to Christians he is a symbol of faith, as well as a physical and spiritual ancestor of Jesus.
These 3 religions share a lot in common, such as: monotheism; a prophetic tradition; Semitic origins; a basis in divine revelation; a belief in good and evil based on obedience to God; a history beginning with creation; and shared stories of Adam, Noah, Abraham and Moses.
The history of these 3 religions reveals another commonality: an enmity and outright hostility that continues to this very day. The religious wars and petty reprisals between these factions of Abraham have resulted in thousands of years of misery and suffering and millions of deaths.
This undeniably divisive component of the Abrahamic religions offers little or no hope of reconciliation; leaving mankind with the prospect of continued turmoil for the foreseeable future. We seem hopelessly doomed to kill each other in God's name unless or until the adherents of these religions finally understand that their religions need a "zero-tolerance policy" against violence of ANY kind – especially that performed in the name of God.

It was very important to know where someone came from back then. It was their status symbol, like today's Mercedes or a Escort. Your facts are incorrect on everyone being muslim.

Quite simply because Islam has been spread with the sword. Convert or die. The people in those regions who remained Christian, Jewish, or any other faith have mostly been murdered throughout the history of Islam. It's a very effective method of gaining converts. It's being done to this day in many places in the world.

If you track the history of the Islamic religion..
First came the Israelites (later to be called Jews)
Then the Christians
Then the Muslims.
**********
Islam is a BRANCH of Judaism. (they don't like to admit it) and so is Christianity.
So, technicly... if you are a Christian or a Muslim... you are also a Jew.
Don't tell the Rednecks..... they won't like it any better than the Muslims.

Because the islamic nations left their homelands and went out conquering other nations to bring islam to those who didn't ask. Sort of a Jehovah Witness door-to-door with a sword thingy.
Can we all say "Janissary"

If you read the history of religion it will tell you all about it. I don't have time to go into it.
