I realy want to be a nice person, but people who do not even know me are scared of me out in public,or think i am ignorant as soon as they see my face. Why does a nice and friendly black male have to feel awkward. I am not just Mad at white people because if i am polite around black people they look at me like i am retarted, but if i get hardcore all of a sudden i am not retarded no more. My theory is that as a race we have a complex. Why do we have to be so masculine.

unfortunately there are some ignorant/racist people in this world. Your race does not determine your personality. Only you do. Just by not conforming to the stereotype, you are helping to break it.

Sadly enough, because we adapt to society's stereotypes.
For example, I teach at an elementary school. There is one black male teacher. He wears a suit and tie every day. He is always professional and courteous. He is an excellent teacher, but he gets called gay, or punk on a regular basis. He has been told that he thinks he is white, or that thinks he is better than his students who are also black. Sad. He is definitely an exceptional role model, but we have adopted all the negative images of ourselves and believe all the bad press. Just be more selective in the people you choose to be around. I cant speak for white people, but every race has prejudices and/or stereotypes, just shrug it off because you cant help what other people think. Be you.

I totally understand. I go to a 95% black school and I see that all the time. My theory is that the african american community has built a reputation of being hardcore and tough. I don't think its fair for the polite african american community because it causes discrimination and stereotyping on them. If I were you I would continue being nice and polite because being hardcore and tough having good values can still be a bad thing at times. I blame movies and bush. lol. I would say don't worry about it too much. Just be yourself. ;)

I spose the normal act is in order. Act like a brother around your friend group/race. Act like a normal person around others. It is not something to lose sleep over, it just seems to be what works, to keep all happy, and fit in. Personally, I'm a white male, but couldn't give a fart who likes me or doesn't. I don't base my self esteem on how many friends I have, or whether folks like me or not. I do as I do, love my wife and kids, help my friends anytime they need, and the rest can kiss it.

No, a nice black man is certainly not wierd.

p.s. I have asked others about your unusual statement "Slavery in Africa and Saudi Arabia never got cruel" in the Polls & Surveys category. Perhaps you should take a look at the some of the responses I have received.

People are quick to make assumptions and often have prejudices. Just ignore all these things and simply be yourself. There eventually will be some people that know better and appreciate your niceness. Don't change for the worst just because how people perceive people of your ethnicity to be.

Honestly- be who you are. Who cares if you aren't gangster enough or if you are too polite.

Everyone has to deal with society's standards, but that doesn't mean we have to conform to them.

Of course racism exists, but you don't need to fall prey to it. Be the open caring individual that you are now. The people worth getting to know are the ones who can hold off judgment before getting to know someone!

i will tell you straight up. stop worrying about what others think! it takes up wayy too much time and theres other things to worry about. dont waste time trying to impress ppl that act like that towards you, but remember that first impressions do count. take time to let them get to know YOU(nice black men are so hard to find! so keep it up).
