its pretty much a great idea. you can use a passive radiator on a existing box. example, you purchase a 10in woofer with the passive radiator to go with it. box the bass radiator and the subwoofer has to be installed on the same box. when the sub is hooked up, the air inside the box will push the passive radiator out causing it to produce a low frequency extenstion. think of it as another sub, but will produce a better low end bass when used with a subwoofer. to answer the question yes it has a great advantage because you are using the same subwoofer box and basically receiving the more bass for the same box! personally if you choose to go with it then i would if you have any doubts.

A passive radiator is just a dummy speaker that shares an air space with an active speaker. It's an alternative to using a ported box, and has some of the same advantages: ie, increased output over a certain frequency range. Passive radiators aren't very common in car audio systems because of the extra cost and space requirements compared to ported boxes.
