A Mechanic to inspect the car before purchase and a CAR FAX report to be paid for buy the current owner! Seller's will play up the good points and not tell you they put oil thickener and block sealer to fix the knocking and cracked cyl head. A car with no miles that only you have driven has advandages. There are lots of used cars to choose from remember As Is means no warranty.

What should I ask when buying a used vehicle ?
If it is okay that you have it independently checked out by your own mechanic --- and -- what the VIN is (vehicle identifying number)
It should be no problem for people selling a GOOD vehicle to have a mechanic look it over for a survey of what MIGHT be wrong (people trying to unload a lemon are going to have a major problem with someone checking the car too closely) !! And, with the VIN , an individual can get information through certain channels to check if the vehicle has EVER been in an accident or claimed in a major damage report !!
Hope this helps you -- and -- as in ALL major purchases -- buyer beware !!!!

If you have never purchased a car before, there are a couple good free websites that can help assist in directing you what to look at. Edmund's and KBB also have a few tips on their websites. It's always best to have a mechanic inspect the vehicle prior to purchasing, however that is up to you. Ray also has a nice detailed site. Good luck and you can always email if you have any specific questions.

ask about the mileage on it and the history of it,also ask if you can take it and have a good mechanic look it over, its well worth it,also find out what the lowest price is on it that's really important also,if its a good vehicle they wont care if you take it and have it checked over real good, most dealers today don't try to hide problems with cars, they know that this could ruin them ,just ask a lot of questions about it,that's the only way to find out anything about it,good luck on it.
