The speed limit is the maximum SAFE speed for a vehicle to travel.

Slower traffic is indeed supposed to keep right (slower cars, as well as trucks and busses.
And contrary to popular belief, the left lane is not the "fast lane", but the PASSING lane. In some states you can be ticketed if you stay in the left lane too long (sometimes the left lane is for carpools, but that is different).

If it really bothers you, then go around the slow people.
Please tell me that your not one of those idiots that does 80 or 90 mph in a 70 mph zone, and then complains that everyone else is going too slow.

On the interstate those are the maxium speed level. Where I live interstate speeds can range from 55mph in the city to 70mph in the county, but the minimum speed is 40mph.

Some people drive slower due to better gas efficiency. Some people may have a smaller engine that they cannot drive faster. Some people feel safer going slower. Sometimes they just got onto the road and larger vehicles do take longer to accelerate. Especially semi-trucks, tractors, farm equipment, and people towing things like mobile homes, u-hauls, and vehicles.

I drive 65mph max for several reason, my odometer stops at 85mph. I have a 1.3L engine. That's small! Because I drive slower than 70 mph I stay in the right lane, inless I know there is an exit on the left side.

Are you sure you aren't speeding? Posted speed limits do not mean it is the slowest you can go.

Be careful and always wear your seatbelt. :)

It all depends on the situation. Slower speeds save fuel & wear & tear on vehicles. The driver could be practicing defensive driving by keeping their distance from another vehicle. Another driver could be having a lot on his/her mind or are looking for an exit or directions. They could be lost in their radio or conversation. You could be behind an older person who doesn't have the reflexes they use to have.

Sadly, in many states, the driver of the slow vehicle can't help it. He/she is driving a semi that has a speed limiter on board or you are living in a state with a split speed limit (faster speed for 4wheelers, slower speed for semis). Both make some states more dangerous than others because many 4 wheelers are pushing their own limits so hard that they don't realize the slower vehicle until it is too late.

It is frustrating to get behind a slower vehicle. All we can do is take a deep breath, have patience, & time it out to get around them. Keep leaving early. It is much better to be a few minutes late than not showing up at all. Good luck!!

I drive at what I consider to be a safe speed, which is often below the maximum speed limit. I factor in road conditions, weather, visibility, and if someone is tailgating me, I slow down to what is safe speed.

For example, someone is 1/2 a car length behind me.
That means 10 mph is the safe speed to drive.

Driving below the speed limit on the highway is a saftey measure for avoiding accidents. In highways usually lots of lorries and busses will be travelling, so its better to drive slowly on highways

Because it saves money..........driving just under the speed limit saves 10-15% in fuel costs.......you are less stressed and fatigued when you get where you're going too.
You will never be rich enough to build your own highway system, so you have to share the road with the rest of us.
I know there are some lousy drivers out there. Just don't become one of them please.
