My dad recently went for a job interview and he will hear within two weeks if he will be called back for a second interview.

Now usually, he sends a thank you letter. However, I told him not to send one until he receives a call saying he has a second interview and then after the second interview, send one.

What do you think? What should he do? Any advice would be great!

Thanks! :-)

Of course he should send one. What if there are four or five interviews before an offer? When do you send the thank you?

You should send one to every person you meet with. And, you should get it in the mail the very same day if possible.

He should have hand written a note the same day thanking the person or people for the time. He should then include any information they asked for during the interview he might not have had, remind them why he is a good fit for the job and then finally tell them he wants to work there and is looking forward to hearing from them. Include his contact information.
If they have 6 qualified applicants and 3 send nice hand written polite notes they are likely to choose among them. They may have not taken good notes so the letter will remind them of which one he was, his contact information is right in front of them so they may call or email or fax him.
Why wouldn't he write a thank you note?

He could send a letter after the first interview even though he has to wait for the second. It would show he's looking forward to the second interview.

A phone call may be more appropriate than a letter at this juncture, only to show that he is interested in the position. He should get a second interview then, and possibly set the time and date for that interview during the call.
