I actually really really do like China a lot. I will go to study abroad next year, but I'll be going a week before so I can visit. But the 2008 Olympics are next year, hopefully the culture is their like it would be any other day.
I'm also taking Chinese 101 this fall, can't wait.

Oh my god yes! The oldest extant culture and the most enduring one at that. The food, the people (blush -- yes, the women), and the scenery. I want to live there for 2 or 5 years or die there! We here in the US as a group are so Euro-centered that we haven't looked much at the beauty and the culture of China. You could eat a different dish at every meal and not get to all the great food. I'd better stop!!! I could rattle on a long time about China!!!

I went to China for 26 days, 2 years ago. I traveled through Yangtze River in a medium cruise.
Look in http://www.ytbtravel.com/travelwithmca in Collette Vacations, then select Asia section and you can see more information about that.
Very, very interesting and wonderful. They are a longest generation with a fascinating culture, construction, meals, creativity, and imagination. Everything are great, the China wall, terracotta soldiers, the music, aerobic shows, the three Georges dam, their language, China medicine, etc.

I find China's traditional culture and history to be quite interesting. Unfortunately, traditional Chinese civilization has been extinct in most respects since the Cultural Revolution. The continuity with dynastic China is, alas, broken.

China was held back by tradition and political leaders. They believed that they had nothing to learn from the rest of the world. Compare that to Japan. The Japanese have always been open to learn from outsiders. As a result, they admited to themselves that they were behind from the rest of the world. So they sent students to learn from the west. In the end, Japan became a modern country while China fell behind.

China more than 2000 years history is not easy for foreign people to learn all.Becasue of the language barriers, many people can not read the chinese books. There are many famous books writen by the ancient chinese people. The pity is that when you translate it into english, the meaning is not the same.in this case you can not get real feel of the artistic conception.
I like the ancient history.but now it's too modernized.Lost many good things.I hope china does not lost too much.
