That is a myth, Witches do NOT fly on broomsticks. The thing about the broomsticks came about with the inqusition. the inquisitors saw witches dancing around riding their brooms, hobbyhorse style and jumping to show the crops how high to grow and just assumed that they were trying to fly. Witches NEVER claimed to fly around on brooms But found the humor in it and used that to make fun of those who believed that they could.

No, witches cannot fly. Witches use their brooms to sweep bad things out of their ritual circles before they start their ceremony.
The idea that you expressed was formulated and propogated by the church in the middle ages to make people afraid of witches.

The only thing I've ever seen a witch fly on was a quart tankard of mead. Flew like a hawk and still came close to not making the Lu and the water-closet therein.
