I'm almost 18... and since I was about 9, I've off and on wondered "What if there is nothing when we die? What if we don't really have souls that live on? We if that's just... it." And it causes me to cry... and have mental breakdowns... I just flip out. And sometimes, I'm surprised I ever calm down with how bad it gets. So... how and why do you believe in an afterlife? FOR YOU. PERSONALLY. How and why? Have you had experiences with spirits? Near death experience? Out of body experience? Pure faith? Help me out...

OK.. I'm NOT an atheist... so if you're gonna say there is no afterlife... obviously if I worry about it, I know that option.. so DO NOT RESPOND. I clearly asked people who DO believe.. how and why they believe. K? Thanks.

Every major religion supports the idea of some sort of a life after what we have here on earth - afterlife in Heaven or Hell or some version of it for Jews, Muslims and Christians, reincarnation for Hindus, rebirth for Buddhists. Truth is, not a single one of us knows for sure, or will know until it happens.

What sets us apart from the rest of the sentient beings is our faculty and capacity for belief and faith.

As a practitioner of Buddhism, my personal belief is that what happens when this body dies is really of no great consequence. I'll have faith, and hope for a higher rebirth and an eventual realization of enlightenment and nirvana, but what is really important is being present and aware in every current moment, making the best of what I have the ability to do right now.

All things are impermanent, and will eventually go away (transform into something else). By getting reconciled with this fact, one may began to understand and be calmed by the eventuality of death.

May you be happy, well and at peace.

I do not want to conrtibute to your confusion.
It's about the choices you make.

Personally, I do not believe in the afterlife because I do not believe in a supreme being or an eye in the sky watching over us.

My advise to you is: do not go out into the world armed with just blind faith. Read more, ask more, be a humanist, and do your share to contribute for the betterment of your community. I strongly believe that is more important than worrying about your soul.

1. Please take some time and go talk to a major denomination minister. It's free and I'm sure he or she, will find time to talk to you. Ask the minister your questions. 2. Read the Bible, especially the new testament. You have probably heard of John 3:16 in the Bible. Go to the book of John, chapter 3 verse 16, read and ponder what it says. 3. Jesus rose from being dead. Jesus defeated death and didn't remain dead. Some of the same people that saw Jesus die saw and talked to Jesus just a few days later. He was alive again. Jesus has gone back to Heaven where everything is great and will last forever. Jesus said that he is the first one to do this. Meaning He is the first one to die but come back to life and go to Heaven. Jesus tells us that the same sort of thing is going to happen to us. We will die but then come back to life. If we believe in God, trust God for our salvation, we too will go to Heaven and live there with our saved family, friends, and many other people. It will be great.... God Bless You..

First of all I do not believe in a personal god. This means that the bible and other religious books were written by men to control men. This leads to the idea that places like heaven and hell do not exist. Soul? What soul? This means no afterlife of any kind is possible.

I am a free human being who accepts the fact that when you die you are dead, finished, it is over, nothing more.

I also study science and try to learn all I can about the universe and help others do the same.

I know there is an afterlife. What we don't know is exactly what kind of afterlife. I have been researching it for many years and I know without a shadow of doubt that it does exist. I have collected thousands of pieces of evidence and had experiences that leave no other choice than to believe.

Yes. There is an afterlife. Please get yourself a Bible and start reading the New Testament. Look up John 3:16, 1 John 5: 13, Romans 5:8, Romans 10:13, Matthew 11:28. Faith comes by hearing God's word (in your mind if you're reading it). Pray and ask God to reveal Himself to you. Christ died for your sins. He loves you. Ask Him to forgive your sins and give you eternal life. You won't regret it. I'll pray for you. Ask God to lead you to a good church.

Again.... it's all real.....
I have experienced all you talked about here.
I have seen and felt the presence of ghost, spirits, God, many near death experiences, out of body experiences, ESP, visions, dreams that come true, memory of other life's.
My spirit guide comes to me now for almost three years, she comes to comfort me, to guide me, and teach, she speaks, I see her, she holds my hand, she hugs me giving comfort. God has answered many of my prayers, and God has intervene to me in the moment I had compassion in my heart for another, and in the moment of truth, telepathically God said, " I am happy with you." My faith in God and these experiences I had since age four.... I have done and learned things that I didn't think was possible, but with God it's all possible.
Either read all my other questions and answers, that would explain some of my experiences, or write to me and ask:)

I believe that there is an afterlife, and I believe that the Bible spells it out somewhat clearly...Heaven and Hell, that sort of thing. But, of course, it does depend mostly on faith.

I'm an atheist, so I don't believe there is an afterlife. Probably not what you want to hear, so don't go flip out or anything.

I'm materialistic, and therefore believe in materialistic reincarnation. Makes the most sense to me, I suppose.
