the movie is called the bridge, if its the same. it's really good. I also think its an LDS publication so check on their website to see if you can find it. It is comparable to Heavenly Father letting Jesus die for all our sins.
as for the question....depends on the circumstances, maybe not kill, more like let die, if the 1000 would die then i'd have to say yes, cause it's the right thing to do. but it can be argued both ways.

No.
Thou shalt not kill.
I know it's a movie, but I can't imagine a circumstance where I would be forced to kill one, and if it were an ultimatum, then who is to say that the one handing it out will honor their word in the end?
I'm afraid I would have to find another way.

Like God allowed the murder of 1000 or more babies, while telling Joseph in a dream to flee to save the one baby Jesus?
Ever wonder why God didn't give other people dreams so they could flee with their babies too? Either a very cruel God, or people are weird to believe a lot of nonsense and call it religion!

In theory I would happily kill several children for that purpose, but in reality, I would let nature take its course and kill as many or as few children as it needs to in order to set things right.

I don't care much for children, but I don't know the thousand I'm saving. Probably wouldn't care much for them, either.
Answer is probably no.

Nope. That is called situational ethics. My ethics are not situational. They are based on God's word.
