My son comes on the weekends. For awhile now, I've notice he's been blinking his eyes alot. It's not your normal blink of the eye, it's more like sqeezes them close, when he does this he also stretches his mouth. When I ask him why he does this he just simply says WHAT! He's 11years old. At first I thought it was just something he was doing, over time it seems when he has to concotrat is when he does this. Not when he reads just any time mostly when an adult talks to him. I've been told this could be bi-polor, or something else of that kinda nature. Please if any one knows anything about this, any help would be great! Taking him to a doctor is out of the question, he doesn't live with me, and he dad refuses to see this could be a problem. Please any help, advise I would be greatful! Thanks!

That is not a symptom of bipolar disorder that I've ever heard of. However, it is a symptom of some vitamin deficiencies such as vit. E which can come from a bowel problem in kids. What worries me is the mouth stricture... he could be having petit mal seizures ESPECIALLY since he doesn't seem to realize it is happening. It is unlikely to be an emotional issue. I would take him to the Dr.

My eldest son stammered alot when he was visiting his birth father & in-laws. He also did the blinking thing too. I was told by his speach therapist that when a child is under extreme stress, sometime that's how they react. Now since he isn't seeing them anymore the blinking and stammering have stopped.

I would have him seen by a physician. Do you think possibly there is something different or upsetting going on at his fathers that he's not telling you about. Why would his father deny the issue?? Something to think about.

Good luck & God Bless!!

My son used to do the same thing . He was diagnosed with a.d.d. They will go through different type of " tics " clearing of throat , humming etc. They don't realize themselves doing these " tics " .
