First: I'm a strong advocate of the "Age is NOT Just a Number" argument.
That's part of the reason I'm feeling so guilty about this. I know she's interested, and I know I'm interested. Still, I know what a lot of people would say if they saw me, a 19 year old, with a 16 year old girl. I feel like 3 years isn't a problem once you're both in High School. Further, I know that at least one of her parents would likely kill me.
Second: She's a friend of my younger brother and his whole crowd.
This is how I've known her as long as I have. Two of my younger brother's best friends have crushed on her and that makes me feel even guiltier for pursuing this, having told them to sacrifice going after her in order to keep their friendship.
For people who are NOT part of the "Age is Just a Number" crowd, do you think I am wrong and should feel guilty about this? My motives are not underhanded or sleazy.

Regarding Legality: I don't think we're going to get involved with one another sexually, not for a long time at least. However, we do live in Georgia where the Age of Consent is 16 as long as the adult partner is 24 or younger.

Again, there is no ground for any legal issues, for those of you who are using that as your argument.
From the Georgia State Code:
16-6-3.
(a) A person commits the offense of statutory rape when he or she engages in sexual intercourse with any person under the age of 16 years and not his or her spouse, provided that no conviction shall be had for this offense on the unsupported testimony of the victim.

We are a ll concerned about the sex aspect of it.
You legally cannot have sex with her; that is classified as statutory rape (even if she agrees, she is not of the age of consent to legally do so.)
If her mom or dad find out, they can take you to court and WIN.
Even if "age is just a number", there are legal issues in the eyes of the law

Well.. As a 18 year old girl.. I would consider dating a 21 year old and not having any problem with the age difference. But it depends on a lot of things (and you seem aware of the situation) I say go for it.. Get to know her. But if you get more serious make sure you tell her parents and make sure its alright. It seems like you have good intentions.
Good Luck.

You're over eighteen, and more than two years older than she. It's probably not appropriate. Age differences lead to unequal relationships which can precipitate abuse and cause long-lasting emotional scarring.
Do the words "statutory rape" mean anything to you? You can't take the relationship too far without risking criminal charges.
You'd be much better off finding a nice, attractive girl in you own age cohort.

no of course not! my parents are 5 years apart and theve been together for a very long time, and are perfectly happy....
if you both really like each other, then theres nothing wrong with it- ignore anyone who's jealous or says that its 'wrong'.
(its definately NOT!)
and you should not be feeling guilty about this, its not like you like an 11 yr old or something..plus, you cant really control those feelings....
one other thing: most girls are mentally a few years more mature than guys so it balances out...
well goodluck to the both of you i hope you have a happy relationship!!!!!

No its not wrong, but it should be approached honestly and with her parents consent, unless you wait till she's 17 or 18 ... 3 years isn't a big deal unless the person is underaged.

No and don't listen to anyone here who says so.... cause they will jump all over the fact that you are above 18 and you should do such a terrible thing...
If you was 18 and dated a 17 year old they would probably same some ****...

Age is just a number. And no that is not a big difference age wise but if she is in High School and you are in college it will look a little suscipcious. I am not saying it wrong bc i myself like someone older than me and he like me. But like i said i do not see anything wrong with it.

Notings rong. But it will be wierd when you graduate. The you go off to college and she will still be in high school. (if your still dating) Just ask her and her parents about. Just know that if you think you are wasting her time leave her because it would have been a waste of love.

no. i was trying to remain neutral and resist the temptation to tell you that I think a 19 and a 16 year old is disgusting and I was doing a good job until you said that she is your younger brothers friend. that is a big fat NO. if she could date your younger brother, there is no way that you should be dating her.

if u both like eachother, then age shouldnt matter... i dont think ur wrong or should feel guilty... u cant control who u like... u should like them 4 them and not feel bad if they r younger or older... cuz then ur confusing urself and ur like i like her but the age is weird... when in reality, all u need to know is u like her, ur happy being with her, and age doesnt matter... end of story... hope this helps:-)
***sum ppl r concerned cuz they dont want u to have sex with her and hurt her and stuff cuz shes younger and shouldnt be pressured... i understand that side too, but i believe age doesnt matter... but either way, dont pressure into stuff she'll regret cuz its wrong
