You WILL make friends right away. Trust me on this one. Only 4 hours away?! Common! Don't be such a baby.

Don't stress yourself out, you will make friends very quickly. When I went away for college for my undergraduate degree, I was nervous too, but within the first week I had already made several friends and everything was falling into place.
You will learn how to make everything work, just by going through everything on a daily basis. You can still call home regularly, and email. You will gradually get into the college life more and more and become less dependent on your family.
As far as worrying about being sick and having someone take care of you, you are a young adult and have to learn to take care of yourself.
This is all part of growing up. I wish you the best, have a great year in college, it is a wonderful experience.

Hi, sorry to hear you’re feeling so fearful of college, but you have nothing to worry about. You'll make friends for life within your first week. If you get sick, your friends will help and you'll have great, sympathetic doctors and nurses on campus. You'll have a wonderful time.
In the days before you leave, try the following steps. They will help eliminate (or at least significantly reduce) your panic attacks and anxieties:
1.Breathe properly - if you control your breathing, you control panic. As soon as you notice the signs of anxiety, check your breathing: breathe in slowly through your nose pushing your tummy out (to the count of 5 or so). Breathe out slowly and for a bit longer (to the count of 7 or so) through your mouth. Do not breathe rapidly or shallowly (in the chest area). This will soon restore the balance of oxygen and you will feel a lot better.
2. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy! CBT is proven to be the most effective thing for panic attacks, OCD and anxiety etc. It takes a bit of work, but it is super effective. (After 15 years of panic attacks, mine stopped completely). You can speak to your doctor about taking a course or you can take a course for free online at: www.livinglifetothefull.com
3. Try relaxation exercise tapes (progressive muscular relaxation). They really help if you practise often enough. You can get free downloads online, e.g. http://www.studentservices.utas.edu.au/counselling/audio_resources/index.html
With each step practise makes perfect. (i.e. practise the steps every day, not just when you are feeling bad). I hope you feel better soon. Best of luck!

You are asking very normal questions, about very normal concerns.
Write each one down, and go over them with your family, friends, clergy person, etc.
If you get sick, will you live in a dorm? Your roommate will help you. Does the college have health care provided? Can your parents come visit & help you, if needed?
Can you e-mail or call your parents & friends? Most colleges & hospitals have suicide hotlines, if you feel desperate. You can go to the college counseling center, if needed.
Remember, many people in society care about you. You can always go online & 24/7 someone here can talk to you.
You'll be OK! College is a lot more fun than you think!
