That is a state law. It varies slightly by state but for the most part, it is essentially the same. In Wisconsin, you must wait 9 months after receiving your first drivers license before GDL expires (i.e. there are no passenger or time-of-day restrictions) (and that's assuming no moving traffic violations or restriction violations). My advice: check with your local DMV or look on their website, drive safely and don't get a ticket and follow the rules of your restrictions and wait patiently. Drive safe.

6 months for Indiana also, unless its changed over the years, but thats what it was back in the day (7 years ago)
