in the long run you will not lose weight eating 800 calories a day. you will in the short term but you are putting your body in starvation mode and it will store fat. it is almost guaranteed that you will gain all this weight back and more as soon as you eat over 1200 calories.
having said that, a calorie is a calorie no matter where it comes from. you can eat chips and chocolate all day which equals 800 calories, but you will not be satisfied. you will still be hungry. thats why we're recommended to eat healthy foods so they nourish us and we will want to eat less.
eat a minimum of 1200 calories a day and you will still lose weight rapidly. make food choices based on fat content (low fat obviously), high protein, good fats and just generally good carbohydrates and lots of fruit and vegetables... all of which nourish us and satisfy our appetites.

800 calories? Are you trying to starve yourself? The lowest amount you should have is 1200 calories, you need that just to function on the basic level. You'll lose weight if you eat 1200 cal. a day and do exercise. That said, I did the 1200 calorie a day diet and found that as long as I didn't eat over 1200 cal. that it didn't matter what I ate. However junk food has more calories than good food and you won't be able to eat as much food. (say one doughnut vs. a bowl of chicken and rice) you'll get hungrier eating all junk and are more likely to fail your diet. Also it's not good for your body to be hungry while dieting, it makes your metabilisom slow down and your body goes into starvation mode and any little fat you do intake will be stored in your body. The best diet is small, healthy meals all day long. You don't get hungry, you don't save food, and your less likely to cheat or fail. Followed with common sense exercise and you'll lose that weight in no time. But be sure to talk to your doctor before starting any diet or exercise plan!!

I hope that a doctor put you on that low of a number of calories, because it's not advised to eat that little. Normally an adult female should eat anywhere from 1500-1800 calories a day. Your body needs WAY more than 800 calories a day to function. Yes, you might loose weight quickly by doing this, but since you will be loosing it at such a fast rate, it will be hard to keep it off. Also, you will be lethargic all the time.

You must eat all healthy things, with just one or two "splurges" a week, if you want your body and mind to stay healthy.
Actually, unless the doctor, with a nutritionist's help, gave you the 800 calorie limit, I'm finding that most people need 1200 calories or more just to support the life processes. Otherwise, your body starts eating its own muscles, and you end up unhealthy + fatter in the long run.

If you eat lots of veggies, you can keep your calories low. But remember to eat meat for muscle maintenance and to feel full and satisfied all day.
I am on low carb, low fat, high fibre, high protein and a hour brisk walk 5 times a week, and I have lost 31lbs and gain better health. I am now maintaining my 108lbs for more than a year.
Details such as my experience, meals, recipes, walking as an exercise and to shape the body etc etc, are in my blog.

Well if you are like me, which you arent. I try to stay around the 170-300 cal's a day. However I try to eat just healthy things for the most part, once every few weeks I will eat something unhealthy like a bite of chocolate or something. And excersise excersise excersise. I promise you will lose weight. I've been doing this for 6 months now and have lost over 100 pounds. YAY! Just another 100 to go and I will be wearing that size 0 or size 2.
You can do it, you just have to believe in urself

First, if you're cutting or maintain a calorie intake, it doesn't matter where it comes from. 3500 calories = 1 lb. So if it's all in fat, or all in protein or all in carbs, or in any combination, it doesn't matter. If 1800 calories is below what you need to maintain your weight, then you will lose weight no matter where it's from. Although, if you do consume all protein, you're more likely to have fluid imbalance and overwork your kidneys. So high protein diets are not recommended.

at 800 calories I hope you are monitored by a doctor, because at that point anorexia is a real concern. It is really important that every calorie you consume is full of nourishment or you can become malnourished and suffer the consequences of that, like hair loss, low immune system, even teeth can fall out.
