they ask for personal info and credit card data
say that first report is free but will need to charge for mebership to monitor credit history and remain member and will charge you after 30 days
this is the trick they hope you forget about canceling subscription before trial period ends( same trick a lot of trial memberships use, AOL is a big perp of this one, and make it very big ordeal to cancel such as signed letter sent snail mail etc. etc.)

You get your free report and your score and are signed up for monitoring service. They will ask for a credit card number and charge an annual or monthly fee, depending on the current offer.
Cancelling is a pain. You have to find the phone number, go thru the automated system to get the email addy to send the cancellation request. Sometimes you have to send the cancellation request more than once.
You can get a free copy of your credit report (one for each of the three bureaus) at:
https://www.annualcreditreport.com
For $6 or $8 you can purchase your credit score. That doesn't come with the free reports.

They want you to sign up for a year of credit monitoring service. As I remember it, you had to agree to a free trial to get your free report, but you have to remember to go back and cancel the free trial. I think they required a credit card to set up the free trial and get the free report.
If you are not expecting to borrow money soon, who cares what your credit score is?

freecreditreport dot com is an Experian website, and they are trying to sell Experian's 3 in 1 credit monitoring service. I've not heard good things about it, and I use TransUnion's TrueCredit.
As others have said, use annualcreditreport.com as it's truly free once every 12 months.

If you want you free credit report, http://www.AnnualCreditReport.com.
If you want your score for free, ask your bank or credit card company. Washington Mutual offers it for free anytime you want it.
