I'm currently 'testing' to see if I might be lactose intolerant or have a milk allergy. So I'm not eating any dairy for about 2 weeks. I talked to my doctor and she said this was okay. My question is, as far as flavor and texture, what is the differance between Soy milk, Rice milk and Lactose-free milk? If you can compare it to regular skim-milk that would be awesome. Thanks!

If you want something that is as close to dairy milk, then lactose-free milk (Lactaid) is your best choice. You can also drink regular milk and take Lacteeze pills before consuming the milk.

Rice and Soy milk are very distinct in their taste. Even the taste differs widely from each brand of rice milk (or soy milk). Neither compares to "real" milk.

Lactose intolerance (problem with milk sugar) and milk allergies (problem with milk protein) are two different issues even though they have some overlapping symptoms. In most cases the protein involved in the milk allergy is casein. Lactose free milk still has casein. If the child has a milk allergy, lactose free milk will not be any better for him then regular milk. Go with soy products. Be sure to read the ingredients. Many soy products still have casein. If the child doesn't have any issues with nuts, you may consider some of the nut milks.

If you like cloudy, taste free drinks then rice milk is for you. soy milk is great. it's creamy and smooth and comes in flavors. i have never had lactose free milk so i can't comment on that. I prefer the Silk brand soy milk

I LOVE rice milk. I am not lactose intolerant but I prefer it to milk. Especially the "Vanilla" flavored stuff.

soy and rice milk, to me, have a distinctly odd flavor, lactose free milk tastes like milk, but is a bit sweet.
