Your idea has some merit and shows you are thinking of saving some money. But, I would urge you to look closer at what you can and can't do in a dorm room. Finding enough different ideas to eat and making them simple is not very hard. But, keeping a supply of food stuffs on hand to cook your meals could be difficult and very expensive to maintain, as you might end up shopping for meals three or four times a week. Weigh the costs of the meals you eat on campus to what you might spend in a day or two and you will not see much difference in cost. And the time and energy you could put into making your own meals could be spent in more fun or constructive ways.
If you remain steadfast on cooking,...Most recipes with pasta are easy as well as anything you put together with rice. Eating raw vegetables and fruits will help with your nutritional needs and remembering a salad or two will keep you from gaining a ton of junk food fat around you waist.Good luck and good eating :o)

Quesadillas are a great-tasting snack (kinda fattening though). You just take a flour tortilla and lay it out flat on a skillet at medium heat. You then sprinkle shredded cheddar or jack cheese on one half of the tortilla. You can add stuff like mild chilis or salsa to the cheese, if you like. Then fold the half without cheese over to cover the cheesy part.
When the cheese is melted (lift up the top part to check), flip it over and heat it a few more minutes. When it's done, slide it onto a plate and cut it into rectangular sections. You can also dip each piece in salsa as you eat them.

Make a pasta sauce. Sauté half a diced onion, add two cans of tomatoes, cook for 15 minutes, add some fresh parsley/basil. If you want, thicken with some tomato paste. Done. Serve over spaghetti. It beats the red stuff in jars.

Stock up on chicken breasts, the kind without the bones and the skin. You just need to salt and pepper them and you can fry them in a bit of olivbe oil and they'll be ready in 6 minutes. You can make them look fancier by taking a sharp knife, (be very careful if you are a begginer cook.)Cut them open from the curved side and cut just to the middle, They will look heart-shaped and flatter, which will make them more appealing when cooked.
