I see a lot of good answers, and some I didn't expect and maybe wouldn't have agreed with at first. I'm not racist, but I don't like how loopholes can give people the right to mooch off of the government.....I would go so far as to include every citizen, Natural or otherwise, that would rather drive 15 miles to pick up a government check than to walk a block and get a job.

If they are born here they are United States of America
Citizens.

This is one of the Major problems with the Immigration Laws.
It doesnt matter how the mother got into the U.S. The baby born here is an American Citizen.

That law has to be changed so that the baby's Nationality shall be the same as the Mothers. The Birth Certificate should so state this and be Attested to by the Doctor. This should be part of the Birth Document, and Should be filed
with the Registrar of Vital Statistics, Immediately. Then they should be shipped back to the Mothers Nation of Origin. Also
the Document should have Photographs of the Mother and Baby incorporated into the Birth Certificate.

There is no good reason why the Baby should be an instant American. Just that there are too many Do-Gooders in
America who have destroyed the American System Of Governance. Our Politicians are the worst ones for
disregarding the rights of true Americans and are giving
away America, "Right and Left".

If you are asking about the current law -- that's a constitutional requirement, per the 14th Amendment.

If you are asking if that's a good idea -- I don't think so. But it's a non-trivial process to come up with a better way to define US citizens by birth that addresses all the possible situations, and then the complexity of actually amending the Constitution.

the 14th amendment was designed to give slaves brought here against their will a break, not appease law breakers. The amendment is obsolete, the circumstances no longer exist. The law should read if your here illegally, your children get the same fate as you, instant bus ride back to Mexico.

No.
The Bleeding Heart Liberals misinterpret the 14th Amendment. The 14th Amendment was written in regards to Slaves and not Illegal Aliens AKA Illegal Invaders.
Congress must clarify the 14th Amendment hopefully sooner than later.

Yes. The reason being that the constitution states that an American is anyone born or naturalized in the United States. It doesn't matter if the parents are illegal immigrants. By the way, for all of you Anti-immigrants out there, your ancestors(the majority of yours) were illegal immigrants. Especially the pilgrims who took over my mother's people (the Cherokee) and even forced us off of our own land. What do you say to that? They(your ancestors) were illegal. And another thing, you need to put yourself in the shoes of those immigrants. Never judge a man until you walk three moons in his moccasins. My mother is American Indian, my father is half-hispanic and half-scotch irish. Therefore, I am half illegal. I bet you all never thought about the struggles that forced those people (human beings) to come here illegally. Your family could starve by the time you finely got granted a visa after you had waited 6 years for any news of your visa authorization.

Article 14 says all persons born or naturalized in the U.S. are citizens, so you'd have to change the Constitution and I don't think that's going to happen.

I say yes. or at least double citizenship. If an american or an italian has a child in Mexico, or Paris, Or Buenos Aires, that child has a choice of citizenships.

No, it isn't right.

And where the child is born is not always automatic citizenship for that country. The US does it based on the 14th Amendment, but not all countries grant citizenship that way. I have two children that were born in a European country, but they are american citizens.
