Anyone who pierces themself - even just an ear lobe with a needle - is a fool.

Piercing studios are like doctor's offices. Everything is sterile. They even only use the sterile needle once. The slightest contamination can cause an infection.

Only get piercings done by professionals. They know how to do them correctly so that there is a minimum chance of infection. They also know the correct aftercare and provide the correct topicals to preven an infection after the fact.

OK, lets put it this way. You are using a BLUNT object to mash your way through your bellybutton, thereby forcing a peice of your skin into the new hole. Not a good idea. Whatever you are using CANNOT be clean, so just go and get it done professionally. An infection isn't any fun, and if it were truly infected, you'd have to go to the doctor and be treated with antibiotics. If you do it yourself, chances are you can go too deep or too shallow....and finding jewelry won't be easy. Going too shallow may cause the jewlery to reject or migrate. Thats where your body pushes it out, leaving you with a flap and not being able to get it peirced.

Go get it done professionally!!! Maybe you should also find out if your body is rejecting the ring. I had my belly pierced 2 times only to find out that my body kept rejecting the ring and that's why it would always become infected.
