First of all, good for you! I am a 21 year old female in the Army...and it definetly has been an experience.

Before you go to BCT you MUST work on your push ups! Because I swear, that is all you will do in basic. And run! And run hard. And run a lot.

Just remember when you go to Basic though...it's all a mind game. Drill SGT's just want to break you down and build you back up they way they want.
But it's fun. So don't worry about it.

Good luck!!!!!

You need to answer a few questions first

1. What do you want to do in the military?

2. What Branch do you want to go in?

3. Are you going to make this a career or are you going in for the education?

Once you answer these questions, you can start to figure out what you need to do.

A lot of people think that you should concentrate on the physical stuff, but they don't tell you that you also need to work on your scholastic skills also. Today's soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen work with high tech gear that the civillian world won't see for a decade or more. Everything from Nuclear engineering, electronics , jet propulsion, to oceanography and cryptography. The more education you have, the better prepared you will be when you go in.

The first thing you should do is to try and research which job you would want in the military and decide which service you like the best. Once you do that, talk to your parents...and share with them your plan and ideas.

If you are not a runner...start. It would make your life a whole lot easier if you decide to join.

Right now since you are only 16 you never know what the world may be like in the next year and a half. This could be something that could easily change either you or your parents mind.

You don't do anything. The military is run by the government, the government sucks, therefore the military sucks. It won't do you any good. Later in life, would you feel good about killing human beings or assisting others to kill?

" If you just learn a single trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it. "
-Atticus Finch

Put yourself in the "enemies" shoes. Do they have a family back home? Do they have children? What is their life like?

One option to explore is the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps. This is a program for youth age 13 to 18 to learn more about the military, specifically about the Navy and Coast Guard. You would go through a 2 week boot camp and have a chance to do advance trainings such as Medical, Seamanship, Construction (Seabee), Sailing, etc. You also can get great leadership opportunities in the program.

If you choose to enlist in the Navy or Coast Guard later, you can start out as E-3 in stead of E-1. (Marines: E-2)

If you choose to go to college, it is a great community serve / leadership mark on your application.

Start off by running as far as you can each day comfortably, then work on decreasing the amount of time it takes you to go that distance. Do as many sit ups as you can twice daily, and keep that up, it will get easier as you go. practice doing push ups, and increase your stamina as best you can. The greatest enemy you will ever face is your own mind..

by the way, some of the truly tasteless answers on here really amaze me.

OMG, YOU SOUND JUST LIKE ME!!! WELL, THE BEST WAY TO PREPARE IS TO JOIN A ROTC CLASS IF YOUR SCHOOL OFFERES IT! I'M 16 AND I HAVE BEEN TAKING NJROTC (NAVAL JUNIOR RESEVERED OFFICER TRAINING CORPS.) SINCE MY FRESHMAN YEAR AND I'M CLOSE TO GETTING MY THIRD STAR ALREADY. MY PARENTS DON'T WANT ME TO JOIN EITHER BUT IT WILL BE BEST TO TALK IT OUT WITH THEM. AFTER HIGH SCHOOL I DO PLAN TO JOIN THE AIRFORCE, BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY TOO MUCH ABOUT TRAINING BECAUSE EVERY MILITARY BRANCH HAS ITS BASIC TRAINING CLASSES.

DO LOTS OF RESEARCH ABOUT THE MILITARY BRANCH YOU WANT TO JOIN BECAUSE IT WILL ACTUALLY HELP MAKE YOUR TRUE DECISION. AND THEY ACTUALLY DO NOT LET YOU JOIN THE MILITARY UNTILL YOU ARE 17.

A LOT OF MILITARY BRANCHES ARE ABOUT YOUR HEALTH AND PHYSICALITY SO ITS BEST IF YOU ARE IN GOOD SHAPE AND ARE HEALTHY.

If your school has an ROTC program, check into joining it. If not, check your community for the Civil Air Patrol, and attend a meeting to see if you are interested.

Proper training would mean keeping your legs crossed. Too many women get sent home from the service pregnant!

stay in school, do WELL and graduate. In the meantime, stay physically fit and active, do NOT smoke, drink or do any kind of drugs.

when you are 18, it won't matter what your parents say, you will be able to enlist without their permission.
