i want to be a doctor. i mean go all the way. i want to be able to treat any person that comes through the door of the hospital. however, finacially, i can't afford to go 8+ years of only college. i know i can get loans but then there would the whole problem of having to pay them and interest etc. i hear that if you join the military, they will pay for your college. well, i don't want to do any of the training and push ups and hard training. i just want to go to school. im not trying to sound like a spoiled brat when i say that either. please don't take that the wrong way. i am trying to be as sincere as i can be.

so if i did join the military, would i have to do all the push ups, sit ups, etc?

thank you. and again, im not trying to be a spoiled brat because God knows im no where close to being spoiled.

thank you again :)

well if you join the military you will be a soldier, or airman, or sailor, or a marine first and foremost and then you would be a doctor. The military is not going to pay for your college and then expect nothing out of you in return.

There are a couple of ways to do this.

One go to school yourself and pay for the school yourself. The join the military and they will pay off your student loan.

Two, join the military and sign up for the GI Bill, do your first enlistment and then get out and use the GI Bill to help pay for some of your tuition.

Three, while you are in you can recieve extra free money through TA (tuition assistance) to start college while you are serving.

this way you have already started working towards be coming a doctor and don't need to use your GI Bill to do it and can use all of your GI bill after you get out.

Remeber you will have to talk with whatever branch of service's recruitment officer to get more details and facts.

Hope this helps with your decision. But again know that if you use the military at any time to help pay for college you are agreeing to "pay" them back. And this is by becoming a member of the armed services in what ever branch you agree to be part of. That means that you will have to go through basic training and all the other training that goes with it after that. That also includes being deployed and the field problems that come all with that to include all the Physical Training like pushups, situps, and running that comes with it.

Good luck with whatever decision you make.

umm YES. what makes you think the military would be interested in paying your way if you are unwilling to give something back in return?!.

to answer your question, yes, ALL medical personnel are required to maintain the same fitness levels as any other Officer, they will have to go through a version of OCS/OTS and they are FIRST and foremost Officers in whatever Branch of the military, and only secondary to that is their status as a Doctor.

Oh, and most times.. you already have to BE a fully accredited Doctor before you can join. Only a very select few ever get picked up for the medical program where the military pays for Med school.

I dont think joining the military for that reason is right. First off they are not going pay for you to become a doctor...that might be 1 out of million. You can join ROTC if you are still in high school and you might be able to work something out there. Also, if you qualify for a grant from the government you could go for free. if you are worried about paying it back you dont make payments on students loans until after you graduate and you would be making bank if you were a doctor...right?

Sorry, but if you join the military there is absolutely NO way to get out of the training. You'll have to do Basic Training and do push ups, and running, and the gas chamber...etc.

Just take out loans, or go for scholarships. Because once you sign that Military Contract- there is no way out of it.

Good luck!

The military will pay for you to be a Doctor. There are pleanty of Navy people in the military that have had there school paid for. However you will have to be in the ROTC program and there are certain schools that they would want you to attend. Just ask your local recruiter for details. Let them know that you are only interested in going to school to be a doctor and want to be in the military. They will give you your options.

if you are really, really serious about it, go to the BEST schools. if you excel in the top 5 or 10 med schools nationwide, take the loans. you will quickly pay them off.

if you go the military route, make sure you get/see the guarantee in writing. it has often not turned out as it should.
