Jesus said no one can serve two masters, a person cannot serve God and money. He also said not to worry about what you are going to eat or drink or wear but to seek first God's Kingdom and his righteousness and God would make sure that all the things that you need to live will be provided for you as an added bonus.
If God is leading you to serve in ministry then He won't give you any peace until you accept his plan for your life. You just have to tell your parents that you trust that God doesn't call people to serve Him and then let them starve to death or lack any essential need.
Then you have to be like the Apostles and Peter if your parents try to turn you away from God's will for your life.
Acts 5:26 Then the captain with the officers went and brought them, but not by force, for they were afraid of being stoned by the people. 27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest questioned them, 28 saying, "We strictly charged you not to teach in this name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring this man's blood upon us." 29 But Peter and the apostles answered, "We must obey God rather than men.

Psalm 37:4 (NIV)
Delight yourself in the Lord
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
In short, when you've got all the junk out of your life: you've confessed your sin, set aside selfish motives, desires, lusts of the flesh, there's nothing left in you but God so do whatever you want because your desires and God's are the same. You want what He wants and you can't make a wrong descision.
Your parents sound like non-believers; if so they'll never understand. Jesus said Matthew 6:24 (NIV)
"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.
I've been ordained for 20+ yrs. Worked for free, low salary and high salary. Before the nice paychecks, God always provided in other ways. STAY OUT OF DEBT and be free to serve the King of KINGS!!

If you feel called talk to your minister. Does your family think you would make a good minister. You know, parents normally worry when their child wants to go into ministry. Some even call them a fool. I have been in ministry since 1977 and no, you won't make a lot of money. But you will always have enough. Get plenty of education. Set your financial needs low. You will do fine.

If you've got the desire, I say go 100 percent after it. Serve God. Because thats what will give you peace and joy. Money cant give peace and joy.
If you serve God, HE will provide for you and i mean everything for you.
I wish I had a desire like you. My problem is ..........no desire, but I dont mind living in rags my whole life. Of course God wont allow his people to live in rags if that person does God's will.

Are you willing to be poor and hungry, if that is what God needs from you? Would you be willing to put yourself in danger for the sake of another?
Do you think that people in the ministry ought to make lots of money, drive big fancy cars, and only work on Sunday?
Alot depends on how you answer that question.
If you are willing to go through hard times...maybe even face being killed for your faith...not that anyone is saying that WILL happen, only that you should be willing IF it should...
If you KNOW that you are willing to put it ALL on the lilne for God...
Then, you know He is calling you to the ministry.
Oth, if you think it's an "easy gig"...that "voice" you are hearing is NOT God.
Getting that straight is the first step.
Once you've done that, God will do the rest. Let Him lead...you follow.
Alot of parents are not crazy about the choices their kids make. Parents who love God ought to be proud when their kid decides to devote his life to Him. Of course, once you decide to follow God, you better know you're going to get PLENTY of opposition. You might even consider the possibility that parental disapproval might be Satan's opening salvo...and expect him to put up one hell of a fight.
But don't worry...Jesus promised that hell would not prevail against His church...

remember the passage ''seek first the Kingdom of God,'' and try not to worry about money. it will come. i too have thought a lot about becoming a pastor. it keeps me awake at night a lot of times. i know i'm not ready yet, but i think one day i might finally do it. i have a very strong feeling that i'm being made ready, for some reason or another. it'n not easy to explain. right now, it's a terrifying feeling for me. i know that may sound strange to those who don't understand it, and i'm not quite sure i understand it myself, but it's an unnerving thought to me. it has nothing to do with the money involved. it's more about accountability, and the fact that i will most likely lead a lonely life (i'm not married yet).
i think that the mere fact that you asked about it is a good indication that may have been called already. you may be the same as me- you're not 100% ready to take the plunge, but you're aware of the calling. i wish the best for you. sorry for not answering your question... i just felt like rambling. lol

So you're stuck between honouring your father's and mother's wishes and your desires to join the ministry. I'd say your parents have your best interests at heart and, if you're not 20 yet, maybe you should listen to them. You can always join the ministry later on.

Are you serious? they are some of the highest paid men in the world. Look on the Forbes 400 list of richest men in America all the TV evangelists are on there.
Some of these big Churches pay a small fortune for the man who can talk and not say anything. Actually that goes good for politicians to.

Being a minister is not the only way to serve God. Just be what God made you. Don't try to be something else.

You will know you're on the right path when god "tells you" that you will indeed make plenty of money in the ministry. Of course when god does that he will also see to it that your parents will get the message as well. Just keep listening for the voice in your pillow.
