**This question is directed toward women; but men feel free to answer.

I keep reading in Wiccan books that women have their menstrual cycles in tune with moon phases.

If you know anything about this, do share.

I have heard this but mine do not follow any moon phases mine are very erratic...

Considering an entire lunar cycle takes about 29.5 days and an average menstrual cycle takes about 28 days to have them synchronized isn't shocking..

It may just be coincidence that reveled itself over time..

I'd really like to know if anyone here who says that a menstrual cycle is 28 days is female! 28 is the average. Most women do not run exactly 28 days. A fair number do not even have a predictable cycle. So, no, our cycles are not in tune with the moon.

Well, I know this much. Every so often when period strays from being in sync with the new moon, and my ovulation strays from being in sync with the full moon, I will experience two periods in one month, and by some stroke of luck, it puts me right back in that lunar synchronicity, and it won't happen again for years. I have normal 27-28 day cycles with little deviation.

The last time it did this strangely enough was a little over two weeks ago, and there I was just a few days ago, ovulating like clockwork by the full moon. But that was an awesome full moon, very powerful and aligned with Jupiter I believe.

Mine isn't. However, I am greatly affected by the cycle of the moon in other ways. I've learned to accept and deal with the biological changes of this much better than I ever did with pms.

I don't really have pms anymore, btw. It all coincides with the full moon now. Strange, I know.

When I was wicca, my Plattoon SGT always was cranky around the cycle of the moon, I was starting to wonder if she wasn't wiccan, None of the fellow witches around me told me about this, but I pretty much figured that she was on her cycle and it followed the cycle of the moon.

i definitely feel more aroused during a full moon, so i think there is some sort of hormonal effect. i haven't noticed a correlation with my menstrual cycle though. i dont think its just a mental association with the full moon because i dont keep up with the moon cycles.

i was fairly sure that this is common knowledge. your menstrual cycle is 28 days, the cycle of the moon is 28 days... if you really want to learn more about things like this, read what deepak chopra has to say about ''entrainment.'' he's excellent at stating the obvious, and then beating it into the ground, over, and over, and over again. then we all give him lots of praise and call him a genius for it.

edit- andy e, it has to do with the gravitational pull caused by the moon's orbit. it's the same thing with tidal waves.

I can't say that I've noticed a correlation between moon cycles and menstruation, but if it helps, all three of my children were overdue, and all three were born the night of the full moon. Weird, ain't it?

Could be. But what happens to the moon for the nine months that a woman is pregnant? Or during menopause?

Yes. Lunar tides are caused by the Moon's gravitational pull.
