Yep, generic is cheaper, but a lot of the generic stuff just doesn't have the same quality as the name brands do. I've found very few generic products that I like, mayo is one of them. I bought a jar of it and it was all runny and I couldn't use it for anything. I've pretty much learned my lesson when it comes to generic stuff, I've tried it all and it really is worth the few extra cents you have to pay to get the good stuff.

Quality, but what people do not realize is that generic is essitially the same thing. After a product's patent has lapsed, companies are free to make the same product in a generic form at a cheaper cost. People may still choose to use the brand name of that product because of brand association and the feeling that it is in some way less effective than the brand name, when in reality, it's not.

Are you aware that this is the beer, wine, and spirits section? If so, then I have never heard of generic alcohol. However, there are cheaper brands, like Natural Ice beer and Popov vodka. In general, with cheap beer and spirits, the cheaper is is the lower the quality is. People buy them just because it's a cheaper way to get drunk, and they don't care about enjoying their drink.
Wine is a bit different. Old-fashioned box and jug wines are usually lower quality than bottles, because they are mass produced. However, there are some new box wines that are actually quite good (the box is smaller, the same size as a box of chicken broth).

some people still believe that the brand names somehow equate to a better product. i always compare the ingredients on the products that list them, and they are exactly the same in almost every case. however, i think that some people feel like they are getting a better product if they spend more for the brand name, and they are willing to spend extra to feel like they got a superior item. the exception for me is clothing. sometimes you can get a really great deal on a quality shirt or pants and not pay a lot, but most of the time, if you are getting a really great steal on it (like a wal mart brand versus a designer brand) the quality of the fabric just isn't the same.

Depending on the product, generic usually is cheaper quality.

In some cases, cheaper prices also means cheaper quality.
Now, there are some things that you can't really mess up.
mayonnaise is mayonnaise, but certain things can't translate.
i have tried generic or store-brand coffee creamers, and they just pale to their name-brand rivals.

It depends on the product but judging by the sales of bottled water, it would appear that ANYTHING can be sold for more money if you put a brand name on it.
