My usual hairdresser has not been cutting the hair the way I like lately. I need a new one that is not so dated with its layered cuts.
Preferably not downtown, but wherever really. Under $80 would be ideal, but not over $100. Thanks.

Greenwich Village, yes downtown, has I've been told some of the best hairdressers in the country. There's one between Astor Place and Broadway that has a national reputation and some celebs go there.

I've been getting my hair cut at Panyc on 15th Street near 8th Ave. $55 the first time you go, $45 after that; it's a little more if you go with one of their senior stylists, but I've always gotten a good cut there. (They have a website if you Google for it.)
