Check out some websites here. http://www.homeschoolingonashoestring.com/educatordiscount.html
I homeschool for about $150.00 per year per kid plus notebooks and pencils, etc. I purchase used books whenever possible. I use Saxon Math, which I consider the best Math and I buy it used. It is non-consumable (meaning not workbooks-the books are used over again). So if you have more than one child you will use them again.
Then I bought my English textbooks at garage sales and got worksheets and things at a couple garage sales in the summer from teachers who were selling some stuff.

Also there are free worksheets to find online. Google "free homeschool worksheets" or "free teacher workheets". You find all kinds of things on line. You can probably make yourself a free kindergarten program just by printing off worksheets on line. Seriously!!

Reading books. Garage sales. Don't buy them new! Honestly!! History and science are worth purchasing more updated versions but buy them at a used homeschool site on line or from a homeschooler. If you do Bible I recommend workbooks. The same for penmanship/writing. My favorite is the Italic Handwriting Program. I think it is wonderful. My kids have beautiful handwriting because of it. A lot of homeschoolers use it. If you would like more info feel free to email me privately and include your email address in your message.

You have to do the work and cover the ground. It's also the rules of the system you use. You will probably have to double up. In public school 8th grade was Algebra 1 and 2 and 9th grade was Geometry 1 and 2 and 10th was either Algebra 3 and 4 or Trig 1 and 11th was the rest of the algebra and 12th was pre-cacl or cacl or math anaylsis If you don't the algebra background the geometery will be hard. The trig will definately be hard. Math is probably the most important. I doubt that history and English and Science will be missed that much moving from 7th to 9th But as I recall 8th and 9th were both Earth Science and World History. You can make up for that reading books. So find out what the courses entail. Find out especially waht the 8th and 9th math courses are That will be the most important, because it's the most difficult.

If you've got a library near by, and internet access, you've got more than enough education resources. The rest is just gravy.

There's lots of books you can check out to help you develop a plan or offer guidance in homeschooling on a budget. Off the top of my head:
Homeschooling on a Shoestring
Homeschool your Child for Free
How to Write Your Own Homeschool Curriculum

I too am on a tight budget and can't afford to plop down $600 or more on a curriculum that may or may not work for my child. So far I am creating my own lesson plans from resources found on the internet and also at the local library. It takes more time, but I'm sure to be able to tailor it to my son's own interests, and teach him what he needs to know for his grade level in ways I think are more interactive and exciting. Feel free to email me and I'll provide you with some good links I've found for lesson plans. My son is in the seventh grade as well. I'll start you off with a great link I found for teaching what I call "life skills" or things he'll need to know in the real world like what a lease looks like, balancing a checkbook, etc. Here it is.

Study by reading all you can about home schooling. You need to know your philosophy and what your expectations are for your children. Your decision will be based on your lifestyle, your personality and strengths, your children's learning styles, your children's personality and strengths. Do you have more money or more time? Packaged curriculum cost more. You can create your curriculum but it will take time.
