Their web site (cidinternational.org) claims they are " 'the' certifying body to accredit and certify interior decorators for the first time in history." Is their certification really valuable, or does some other organization offer a more recognized certification?

For interior "decorators", yes. When you are certified and an interior "designer" it is usually through the State, and those states that require it.

Well, this is taken directly from their website:

The concept and idea to certify interior decorators belongs to the founder of C.I.D. The term: Certified Interior Decorator and the appellation C.I.D. is a registered Service Mark filed by Certified Interior Decorators International, Inc. in the United States Patent and Trademark Office in Washington, D.C.

I'm in Canada and there is NO body to certify interior decorators... anyone can call themselves an interior decorator... You just need to have talen, know what you're doing and have the gift of gab...

Basically, it's the owner of CID that invented this certification... and I've been in design and decorating for years (like almost 20!) and this is the first I've heard of them... For interior designers, it's quite different. You need a real interior design education...

Not everyone is artistically inclined, and there are those who either feel that may be artistically inclined but feel that spending their time on doing this would be a waste, so these people hire someone who has been trained in furnishing rooms and putting together wall colors and furniture colors that compliment instead of clash. I would not spend my money on hiring an interior decorator, but I have seen some rooms that people have put together on their own that were hideous and could have used some help by someone who was knowledgeable, I have also seen some rooms in nice houses left almost completely bare because the owner did not have the time to decorate, and did not want to spend the money to hire someone.
