How do I transfer shows from my set top box to my computer?

I have an ATT U'verse set top box with a DVR and I would like to transfer some shows I recorded to my computer. Is this possible? There is USB port and the front and the back, though the guy at the local Radioshack claims the port isn't operable.

Note: this DVR is made by Motorola.
model # VIP1216. There are two USB ports, one on the front and one on the back.

Yes you can transfer TV shows and movies to your computer! Since your DVR is made by Motorola, you can transfer TV shows and movies to your computer. I absolutely know you can since my friend has one and has done it before but I don't know how to do it. I suggest that you read your manual to find out how to transfer shows to the computer.
