if God created us for a higher purpose, i don't understand why we have to wait on this stupid earth for billions of years and wait for another return. i don't understand our purpose on this earth i think it's just a big waste of time... although i used to believe in God i don't anymore(don't know why) but i always watch out for the rapture(probably b/c i know that ill be left behind).. it feels like all i do is go to work come back home, go to work, home, work..... WHAT ARE WE HERE FOR?!? if God loves us sooo much then why does he only give some the gift of faith?

A great avatar of the modern day, Ramakrishna Paramahansa said definitively that "the purpose of human existence is to realize God." Since you don't believe in God anymore you have clearly abandoned the true purpose of your existence, so why would it be OTHER than boring and pointless? And even when you DID believe in God, what did you do to affirm that belief and turn it into living faith? Nothing, right? In order to get "love" from God, you have to make the first move and confirm that you exist as something more than a mere distortion of the time/space continuum. Otherwise all you will ever have is birth, life and death, over and over...

Moosemose's wife must hate to see him come home from work.
P.S. If you believe in the rapture, you probably have at least a small measure of faith. Seek after God. Pray. Read your Bible (New Testament), try to find a good Bible-believing church. I'll pray for you. Sounds like you are just struggling with your faith. Don't give up on God.

Well...number one: we don't have to wait "on this stupid earth for billions of years"...because WE will both be dead within a hundred years...and probably within 50, and maybe even within 3 years!

But...number two: you ought to consider reading Ecclesiastes (a short book in the Bible)...I think you'd like it and relate to it....

According to the T.V. show "Babylon 5" :

"The universe is conscious in a way we can never truly understand. It is engaged in a search for meaning, so it breaks itself apart investing its consciousness in every form of life. We are the universe made manifest, trying to understand itself."

That explanation for why we are here makes more sense to me than anything I ever read in the bible.

All have a purpose, few ever realize it. When Jesus is accepted, one gets the measure of faith. After that, we must grow it.

Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?

Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?

What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction.
***********************************
Translation

Who are you, a mere human being, to argue with God? Should the thing that was created say to the one who created it, “Why have you made me like this?” When a potter makes jars out of clay, doesn’t he have a right to use the same lump of clay to make one jar for decoration and another to throw garbage into? In the same way, even though God has the right to show his anger and his power, he is very patient with those on whom his anger falls, who are destined for destruction.

God has given everyone the measure of faith. Some people just haven't tapped in to it yet. Peace.
