Who else gets tired of scientists trying to prove or disprove the existence of God. You have atheistic Scientists like Richard Dawkins who write books like "The God Delusion" arguing that God most likely does not exist, and then you have theistic scientists like Michael Behe who write books like "Darwins Black Box" arguing that God most likely does exist. It annoys the hell out of me. Science has not yet reached a point where we can conclude with any degree of accuracy that God does or does not exist. There is no point in trying to prove the existence of God because it simply cannot be done with current knowledge and technology. It does nothing but belittle the purpose of science when people like Richard Dawkins and Michael Behe claim that science can do things that it can't yet do.

I think Richard Dawkins’ stridency against religious maxims aren’t the result of his opinion that it is the legitimate purview of science to comment on religious matters. The true reason why he is so vocal against religious ideology is because religious authority has sought to over reach its bounds and meddle with science. This intrusion by religion is most notable in our education system, where many right wing Christians are seeking to supplant the theory of evolution - the very pillar on which our modern biological understanding rests - with the superstitious drivel of Creationism and Intelligent Design. Had religious people stayed on their own turf, Dawkins would see no need to comment on the existence of God or other religious concepts.

Dawkins would have seen no need to comment on how God is a delusion, had the religious people kept that delusion to themselves, and not sought to alter our government, the rearing of children, and on other facets of our society. Science will be quiet about religion when religion becomes mute about science, politics and culture.

I have yet to read a book by a scientist who is trying to disprove God.

I have, however, read several books by scientists that REFUTE the work of other scientists that are attempting to prove the existence of God with science. That inculdes Dawkins, Stenger and others.

I am afraid your point is mistaken. People try to use science to prove god exists, but the scientists simply show that these people have an incomplete understanding of what they are claiming, and that the science actually doesnt prove God exists. Not that it disproves his existence, but that it fails to prove it. Surely even you can understand the difference in that?

You make a very good point. Science is primarily about describing what IS. How it got that way is a subject mostly based on conjecture.

Tomato Paste says, "Michael Behe is not a scientist."

That's strange since he testified in Federal court that he has been teaching chemistry and/or biochemistry on the college level for 23 years... And don't give me the "religious oriented school" bunk, when I was in school, DOW CHEMICAL rated the undergraduate chemistry program at Abilene Christian University among the TOP FIVE IN THE COUNTRY.

It cannot be done for one simple reason: God cannot be tested. Or say believers say. The "proof" of the existence of God is "there is no other explanation." The counter is that, just because we can't come up with a "scientific" explanation for everything is because we just don't know enough yet. Just as we didn't know about microscopic germs during the Black Plague, we just might not know enough about science to explain everything now. Using "God" as the explanation is a cop-out. Plus, there isn't a single view of God. Even if we could prove existence of a higher power, such a power might not be "God" in the way it's defined for Christians or Jews or Muslims and so forth.

I'm not sure what your question is but understand the point. Richard Dawkins incidentally doesn't argue that "god most likely does not exist" he absolutely insists that God does not exist and ridicules anyone who thinks he does. I don't see anything wrong however in Mans pursuit of scientific knowledge but at the end of the day, those who believe in God (as I do) do not need to rely on a scienctists endoresement of that belief, faith is just that, and you either have it or you don't.

Funny that scientists try to 'prove' the existence of God, when it was scientists who proved that WE are the ones who do not exist! And I haven't seen Richard Dawkins come up with a method of making living, functioning human being out of pizza and hamburgers. Yet our own bodies perform this miracle without us even having to think about it! It seems strange to me that someone who regularly contemplates the miracles and wonders of the cosmos would have any doubts about the presence of a Creative Mind behind those miracles and wonders!

Just more proof of what I've said before, science changes the rules to fit what's going on now.

There are even quite a few scientists denouncing the big bang theory (notice it's STILL a theory, it didn't even get to grow up and be a fact before they started tossing it out the window!)...

BTW- I'm laughing as I'm saying this, I'm not angry or mocking, I'm being silly... though I stand by what I say.

"Be ye not conformed to this world"... (Romans 12:2)

1 Corinthians 3:18 -19 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

If you read Richard Dawkins you would realize that he is not trying to prove that god does not exist. Who would do anything so incredibly futile? That would be like proving that Santa doesn't exist, can't do it.

There is a lot of Pseudoscience out there. Read anything by Lee Strobel, Pseudosciences Extraordinaire.
