Look, have you ever heard , " It aint the size of the dog in the fight ,it's the size of the fight in the dog." ? One of the toughest Marines I ever knew , Cpl Cooperider of Omaha, NB, was only about 5'5" and must have wieghed about 120. He was my team leader. I am 6'3" and 240. I got cocky and tried to wrestle with him once and he dislocated my knee. Marines come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. And if you wish to be a sniper the Marines is the place to do it. They have some of the best in the world. I am half middle Eastern ( my Mother is Lebonese) and yeah, sometimes guys would make jokes at my expense because of it but that just means they like you in the Marines. Also, if you speak Arabic you would be a great asset to any Marine unit that you get into.

Dude, the Marines are not the "first to fight." That is the stuff of commercials. The Army led the initial invasions in Gulf War I, the current Iraq war, and Afghanistan. The reality is that the Army has Airborne and Air Moble Divisions that get to conflicts much sooner than Marines on ships.
Not to bash the USMC, they are fine warriors, but certainly are not any more "elite" than your Army Paratroopers.

This link has alot of good info.
If you ever should change your mind about the marines ( i doubt you will ) the army also has a sniper school just for Army Special Forces - Rangers and Green Berets -
It is on par if not better than Scout Sniper School. Its where the Navy Seals train as well.

Not all Marines are big and strong. I know a lot of Marines who are under 5'5. In fact, your idea of a typical Marine may not stand true. Someone who is all muscle mass would not be able to keep up with members of the infantry who are marching and running all day.

You are very young and still have time to think well about that decision. Is good to defend our country but you can be a good patriot without being in the military. Get a career first and then think about the other later. Military life is not pink color and sadly there are also military members that are a shame and do not deserve to wear that uniform.

Don't worry about your size. My uncle was the smallest guy in his recruit platoon, but by the end of boot camp, he was transformed into a tough fighting machine -- he beat the biggest man in the whole battalion in the pugil stick competition! Don't go reserves, either. Go ahead and do an active tour, then use the G.I. Bill for college. Good luck...

I'm not a Marine, but you should go to this site. The members are very helpful to those considering military service. You may need to register before you can enter the forums. Good luck!
