I had a throat infection twice that caused my uvula to be swollen and painful.

HELLO MEGAN,
THOSE WHO NEVER STUDIED ANATOMY HAVE NO CONCEPT OF THE UVULA.
FOR THEIR INFORMATION, IT'S THAT V OR U SHAPED JANGLY PIECE OF TISSUE AT THE BACK OF THE THROAT. -GET A FLASHLIGHT AND CHECK YOUR OUT...
THE UVULA DOES NOT USUALLY BECOME SWOLLEN.
USUALLY THE SWELLING GOES DOWN IN TIME IF THE CAUSE OF THE IRRITATING EFFECT IS REMOVED.
WHAT MADE IT SWELL IN THE FIRST PLACE?
TIME WILL TAKE CARE OF IT. MOUTHWASH WON'T.

WHY IS THE UVULA NECESSARY FOR ALL?
IT ENABLES YOU TO SWALLOW PROPERLY. WITHOUT IT YOU WOULD BREATHE YOUR FOOD AND DRINK.

Sounds like you have had an allergic reaction to something you have eaten or drunk. You should visit your A and E departments asap, because if this gets worse your breathing will become irratic.

What the heck is a uvula?!? Once I know, I may be able to answer.

Okay, it helps to articculate sound.

If what your doctor is doing isn't helping, then go back to him or her.
