It's still measured on the diagonal.

Since new HD-capable TVs have a 16:9 aspect ratio (widescreen) instead of the old 4:3, size comparisons are more difficult. If you want to find a widescreen HDTV that has the same picture height as your old 4:3 set, you need to multiply the diagonal of the 4:3 set by 1.22 to get the diagonal of a 16:9 set with the same picture height (minimum dimension).

This may sound picky, but if you go out and get a new 32 inch hdtv to replace your old analog 32 incher, you may be be not be pleased that it looks smaller than your old set while displaying SD content.

It's still measured diagonally from mounting tab to mounting tab....those are hidden behind the frame of the TV set...just add 2 or 3 inches for that....

Its from corner to corner. I work for the company that supplies the glass screen. It's really not glass though. It would be illegal for me to tell anyone.
