Is there divine intervention, or is it just some random chemical processes? To make life from non-life is God's teritory in my opinion.

A flower must be fertilized in order for a seed to be produced in the first place. So a seed is a PLANT EMBRYO, completely dormant and ready to go when the conditions are right. There is no need for 'God's intervention'; the reaction of the seed is 'stereotyped' and will respond to the intended stimulus. "God's part" ended when fertilization was completed!

Assuming the seed was properly fertilized, it is a living organism. It is merely in an arrested state of growth, waiting for conditions to warrant further progression.

Fertilization happens within the flower. What we see as the covering of a seed is actually a protective covering for the plant embryo (if you will) inside. When the seed finds itself in ideal conditions (water, covering, warmth, etc.) the covering naturally splits open, releasing the baby plant within.

It makes for a nice spiritual metaphor, if you want to take it that far. What causes the plant within a seed to break free of it's boundries can be seen as a sort of oppression. The right kind of oppression can suddenly cause growth.

I find this cool as a believer and as a gardener.

If you read in your Bible, you will see that a plant is not referred to as "living" God describes living things as having "life blood in them. The BLOOD is what makes it a living thing. Also, when God Breathed breath into man, he became a living being. Not so with plants, trees, etc. It doesn't say that plants or trees "die" It says they WHITHER. There is a distinct difference!
Plants, trees, etc. GROW and WHITHER. People, and animals LIVE, and DIE.

From your argument I guess that an ovum is dead until it is fertilized. Does God magically make it alive or does it have something to do with a male sperm fertilizing the egg.
