Because our President believes in a "Kinder & Gentler America..." (He got into Office on that slogan, -remember?). And I guess HIS "idea" of being "kind & gentle" is sending our people off to die in a far away land- sight unseen.

The fact that "youths" are sent to war does not have anything to do with hate, tolerance, etc. The fact that you can join the military at 18 (17 with parental consent) is the reason why there are young people at war. They start off at the lowest rank and work there way up. Most of the dirty work is done by pay grades from E-1 to E-4. The majority of servicemen and woman are in between these paygrades. They are an all-volunteer military and they are doing the job they were asked to do.

You were taught that by people who have had a couple of generations or more of peace brought to us by people who went to war for our freedom in WWII. They were NOT taught not to hate, to have tolerance. Oh, they did O.K. on those counts, but they were taught patriotism and an awareness that the ideology of "peace, love, and understanding" isn't shared by most of the world; some of them want us dead.

That's why some of our youth are sent to war.

My family escaped Islam in the 1950s. We've been waiting for this war to happen for several decades.

Peace is wonderful. Until it gets you killed.

Bless the military men and women to take the war to them rather than let the Islamic literalists take it to us.

Who is teaching you tolerance? I live in Southern NM and the illegal from Mexico and other Latin American nations are destroying our town. The hospital lost 13.5 million dollars in the first six months of this year. They are about to close the 350 bed facility down. The schools have classes that only have between 12 and 15 students out of 30 who speak English at all. This is not teaching me not to hate or to have tolerance. As for why our youth are being sent to Iraq? Do you remember Clinton shooting up Baghdad about 10 years ago?Something about being involved in terrorist attacks in Africa on American embassies? Am I missing something here? Do we not have a right and an obligation to defend ourselves after we or our allies have been attacked? ???? I hear a lot of people screaming about how bad America is however there are sure a lot of people who would be happy to trade places with the. People who would be willing to work hard to improve their lot, not expecting the Government to feed, cloth, house, educate(according to Liberal beliefs only please), and entertain them all for free with out them having to work for it at all. Are these people teaching me not to hate and to be tolerant? Not hardly!

You're being taught to think that every war is wrong and that self defense is based on hate and intolerance. Our "youth" are grown up men and women who volunteered to join the armed forces. They're not being taught to hate. They're very brave, among our best citizens, and they're fighting an evil that could cause chaos worldwide.

If you don't want to volunteer that's your perogative. Maybe you can teach the terrorists in Al Qaida to not hate and be tolerant.

In the case of those specific people going to Iraq - who are not, actually, /that/ young, IIRC, the average age is around 30 - it's because they volunteered to serve in the military.

The military actually led the rest of the country in racial integration, so it's not exactly the antithesis of tolerance. Similarly, hate doesn't have that much to do with military service - it's love of country, not hate of the enemy that is the ideal. (Not that such an ideal is automaticaly realilty).

So, no, there's not a big inconsistency there.

Our TROOPS who volunteer to serve are being sent to war, not out youths, and why do you think that going to war contradicts our view on tolerance?

We are feeding them, repairing their infrastructure and our docs are curing and healing them.

If we had no tolerance and were full of hate, it would have been over by now because, we would have done just what our enemy would do to us, if they had our strength and power, slaughter every one of them, wipe out their culture and turn it into a wasteland.

The enemy in Iran have the same mindset as The Nazi's, in the 30's & 40's , if you are not of my culture, you are subhuman. That is why we are there, we are fighting intolerance and hatred aimed at OUR culture

Hate and non-tolerance have nothing to do with the war in Iraq. You are reading too much news about soldiers guilty of war crimes such as rape and murder. Most go down there more scared than anything else -- not filled with hate or intolerance. They are just following orders from our Executive branch that feel for some reason, our soldiers need to be there. I still don't understand for what reasons. I have heard possible reasons, but I will not discuss them as they have no bearing on your question. But it has nothing to do with the soldiers. Just do your best to support them. They are just like any of us and doing their best in a lousy situation.

You say this as if our youth had no choice in the matter. The military (albeit they may have before) does not knock on your door and take your son/daughter and send them to Iraq. They went to the recruiter, filled out TONS of paperwork, got the physical and mental examinations, were informed of the military way of life (not to mention had years to research the military life) and then SIGNED A CONTRACT clearly stating you may be called upon to go to war.

Our youth are sent to war to protect our country from others that can cause us harm. That does not have anything to do with hate. I think is important to understand that there are also good people on those countries who are victims too, and in every country, race, nationality, you have good and bad people.

They were not sent out of hate but to save people from being beaten and tortured. I can't think of a war that any president has sent our Young people off to out of hate!
