The LIE is bad only on Friday afternoons going east and Sunday evenings going west. The Cross Bronx is bad 24/7.

Cross Bronx without a doubt....
Its heavily used by trucks and cars coming from Long Island, New England and New Jersey...
Its actually part of I-95 and serves a major crossing point in the GWB....
Because so many routes eventually end up on this expressway, it makes it murderous to take....

I used to work in Long Island so I used the LIE in my daily commute.....even though there are times where the traffic is bad....mostly during the rush.....its normally on going traffic until you hit the city area....where it is termed the Big Parking Lot. Most of the LIE is not bad, especially in Long Island.....and If I did hit traffic, I have the choice of taking the Northern State Parkway.....

The Cross Bronx backs up all the time, because of the George Washington Bridge. It could be 4 AM and theres traffic on the Cross Bronx.

The LIE is bad mainly on weekends during the months of July and August.

They used to be equally notorious, but now it's clearly the Cross Bronx Expressway.

The L.I.E. underwent major construction where additional lanes were added in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. These lanes became "High Occupancy Vehicle" (HOV) lanes; cars using them are required to have two or more passengers. (Outside of Long Island, they are called "carpool lanes".) With the addition of the HOV lanes, traffic flow is much better.

Well I haven't lived in NYC in a long time, but the last time I was there we took the Bronx Expressway during rush hour traffic and it was brutal! I think it took two hours to get through it. But I don't think it really matters. During rush hour traffic, everything (including the Holland and Lincoln Tunnels) suck badly!

Definitely the Cross Bronx...never not sat in traffic.

The LIE does have traffic but at least there are other options such as Grand Central and you can take the local roads.
