Parris Island, S.C. is hell on earth; swampy, muddy terrain, jungle heat and insects -- the humidity hits you like a sledgehammer in the chest even when you are sitting in the shade.
I've humped hills and swamps and jungle. Hills are easiest of the three, imho.
My cousin did boot camp at P.I. and was stationed at Pendleton. He said the island was way worse and Pendleton was a cakewalk by comparison.
One exception is that we have a mild winter in the South, so the Island heat is non-existant between December and February, without real bitter cold, either. Average winter temperature there is around 40-50F.

If you have a regular tatoo you shouldn't catch too much hardship over having it, but if you show up with a tattoo that says Marines or the symbol of the globe/eagle/anchor then you might not make it out of there alive! "So, you think you're a marine..." would be how it would begin followed by a barrade of "physical challenges" and "inspirational phrases". It goes along the lines of claiming to be a part of something that you have not yet acheaived. In my best advise, if you have the Marines symbol tattooed on you and your not a marine yet it doesn't matter if your at Parris Island, or San Diego for boot camp, you're going to have one hell of a time. Good luck.

I dont know , Im also a "Hollywood" Marine. But Parris Island is no cake walk. I know what you mean about humping the hills at Camp Pendelton, but at PI they hump through the swamp. A few recruits have even drowned out there.

I went to Parris Island from June to September. Hot, humid and miserable. I was stationed in California for a year and a half, so trust me, I humped hills. I like them more than I liked humidity. As for how far can you go? Miles. It is called walking in circles. Trust me, we went the same number of miles as you Hollywood pansies, but it was 90 degrees with 95% humidity.

I don't know dude... I think I'd rather deal with the airplanes flying over the parade deck and the mountains in the cold *** weather over sand fleas any day!
If you want to get technical, you could say Hollywood Marines come out more physically fit, while PI Marines have better discipline, holding their bearing.
