Locomotive Engineers.

For those of you that don't know, Conductors do not now nor have they ever worked in the craft of operating locomotives. And the engineer is just as responsible for safety of the train as the conductor is.

Daniel L: Get on my train with that attitude and they'll be calling you the guy that changed a lot of knuckles today.

Locomotive engineer, engineer, hoghead (moi), hogger, eagle eye, golden arm, high stepper, high wheeler, hogineer, piglet... It depends on what era.

I like Rango's answer the best.

To clear up a little confusion, the conductor and engineer are jointly responsible for the safe operation of the train and rules compliance. When on the engine employees are subordinate to the engineer and must obey his/her instructions.

Train Engineers/Conductors.

The engineer controls the actual movement of the train or engine, however the train or engine cannot move without the authority of the conductor. A conductor is more than a ticket taker.

Locomotive Engineers
or Hogheads, but dont dare call yourself a hoghead, your co-workers have to give you the title.
I remember an old conductor saying "Kid, you aint a hogger until I say you are"
To which the engineer said "and I can knock you on your *** from a mile away with my little finger "
