Not a strike on you guys, I am just interested in something. For example when I look at something beautiful in nature, I feel an enermous amount of gratitude. I don't know how to put it well but do you often feel greatful just for the existence of everything a planet to live on in a huge universe that exists, I am kind of greatful to the universe do you have feelings like this and were do you attribute them?

I know this isn't far off a drinking Q but I am seriously interested.

I feel overwhelmed by my good fortune. I don't attribute it to a Sky God at all. I think I would feel a little silly, to be honest, to think along the lines of "Thank you for this new car and enough food to eat and not making me be born an African with AIDS." I used to feel like that a lot, when I was a teenager and I always felt guilt along with gratitude - that I was fortunate and others were not. Now I just feel fortunate.

Ditto: looking at a beautiful sunset or learning about space.

Pardon my answering since I'm an Agnostic, but I just feel awful damn lucky. Feeling gratitude would presume that someone gave something to me and I don't know if that's the case, so I say I'm lucky. I'm glad when it's good luck!

Sorry, not an answer to your question, per se, but a thought I had which was inspired by it. (Also not intended to offend atheists - live and let live as far as I'm concerned)

Do you suppose that if an atheist had ever felt that "excess gratitude" that they would continue to be atheists?

P.S. That is one SERIOUSLY cute little kitty in your pic!

i feel somewhat the way Laptop Jesus does, except i tend to be more "hung up" on those people with such a miserable existence. i AM fortunate, why aren't they?

thinking like this dampens any "excess gratitude".

I am just happy to be here, and tend to express excess gratitude to those who make me happy while I'm here. Be it my cats or my family or my friends or animals or the beautiful planet. (corny, I know... but true)

I'm sorry but I don't know what you mean by "were do you attribute." It's a linguistic train wreck.

Yes, I feel it. Im grateful that im hear and some "god" didnt create any of it. That this was the work of nature's own hand. I love it! :D

The Tao, of course. Tao translates to 'way'. At those times I attribute it to 'the way things are'.
