I've heard that this has been done before, so how?

No, but if I did, that would be an amazing feat. I can't even train the cat to stop scratching the furniture (he's a little better, and has a scratching post, but stilll....)

I remember some time back (probably 15+ years) there was a litter box that fit on the toilet.

The theory was that the cat would get used to using a litter box in that position, then when trying to cover the waste, would hit the toilet handle and flush it.

After he/she learned to use the box there, then you could remove the litter box, and the cat would continue to sit on the edge of the seat and do its business.

Dunno if it worked, but it was in one of those little catalogs that you could order the boob shaped ice cube trays and all kinds of other stuff from. Carroll Wright or something like that.

In the link below, a doctor taught his cat to flush by tying a string with a fuzzy ball attached to it to the toilet handle.

It's not the same one I saw in the past, but the idea is the same.

(No opposable thumbs indeed...)

yes our cat use too use the toilet but we would have to watch her cause we would be the ones that had to flush it lol when my sister was little she use to let the cat in the bathroom with her all the time. i think the cat learned to do this by watching her lol our cat died about 3 years ago of cancer i miss her so much but i still have her brother .hes 17 years old and still pretty healthy but never used the toilet lol

This is going to sound strange and to good to be true but....my cat once in a awhile will go pee in the toilet. I did not train her to do it, I think she just likes the sound of it. And yes, on two separate occasions, she has flushed to toilet. Once was in the middle of the night, and the other time it was in broad daylight. Me and my friend freaked out, because we knew it wasn't my son in the bathroom.

A cat can't flush a toilet. He has no opposable thumbs.
