Yes, it can be done. You can get a mounting bracket designed to mount a standard DIN-sized stereo under a shelf in the car (usually used for additional units, e.g. tachometers in LCVs that tow), which can also be used to fit it under a kitchen cupboard or similar.
You will need a suitable transformer/rectifier power supply to convert your mains electric supply to 12v DC.
One of my mum's friends has had a car stereo in her kitchen for years (her husband used to own a car parts shop).

hi mate i have just done this i have 2 1000 watt amps 6 speakers 2 subs and a jvc head unit all wired up in my house as a home unit all i did was but the stuff then buy a 12v adapter for home plugs i got that of ebay for 4.99 and wired the live and the eath wire up and then the accesory wire to the live wire and it works 100% then i just wire my amp up to it as normal but had to buy anothe 12v adapter for the amps to run of but it was worth it it is really mintthanks hope i helped

u could, but as said the voltage is different in a car..
why not just get a decent headunit and speakers instead =)
they aren't as expensive as they used to be.
