Well I can tell you what my sons believe and that's why they joined the military.I also believe this way. They joined to protect and preserve the American Dream. That each person residing on our soil can celebrate their culture and live in freedom and have prosperity. That all men are created equal and should have equal voice in the world. My sons are fighting for the freedom of another country that they might someday enjoy what Americans do.So do you honestly think they care if Hispanics practice their beliefs or cultures here?No they fight to give them and all people of the world that right. So how can those of us who are sitting here behind our keyboards even try and disrespect those who are and have, fought for the rights of all in this world?

The beauty of this country is that we are free to preserve our own values, cultures, way of life and holidays any way we see fit. We are free to pick and choose our lifestyles and values, as well as make important choices in our own destinies.
This is one of the reasons America is the country of choice for so many different people. Few other countries allow this kind of freedom for its citizens.
You are free to run with the best, and ignore the rest. Nobody is forcing you to do anything different.

I do not see any attempts to preserve culture, here. Really, Americans don't often think of there /being/ a strictly 'American' culture. There's pop culture, and urban culture, and the cultures of various ethnicities - and, of course, the denigrated 'mainstream' (treated more as a lack of culture).
What you do see a lot of is attempts to promote mutli-cutlural awareness. That is, to showcase all /other/ cultures in the best possible light.

There is no such thing as American culture. American culture is a mix of hundreds of different types of cultures.

"American" culture is already a mixture of the cultures of our forefathers. This is the mixing pot, and, American culture is exactly that (St. Paddys Day, Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc) are all from seperate cultures. We are not a native people and we celebrate a variety of cultures.
When the Irish first arrived the idea of celebrating their day was not embraced by Americans, however, here we are today, and, that is an "American" Holiday.
I think that we will mix. Do you notice Latinos celebrating the 4th of JUly? I did. I think they will blend into our holidays. We will in a generation celebrate 5 de Mayo (my children do already) and not much more will be thought about it.

Unfortunately, the Hispanic. I live where there are masses of them all unable to speak English, most of them illegal, and we White citizens who were born here are expected to observe their holidays (Happy Cinco de Mayo! Felice Navidad!) and learn their language and customs. Well, this is AMERICA. It is a country founded by White people FOR White people. We need to take back our country and our culture!

We should be protecting only the AMerican culture whatever it is. UN stated that when someone enters a nation they have to follow the culture and rule of the nation they entered. We have no obligation to tolerate foreign culture. The problem is that it has become part of our culture to tolerate other culture. The problem is how we interpret that. My strong belief is that culture is the unwritten rule of how it's citizens interact with each other to reduce conflict. WE can not have more than one set of rules. TO me tolerate means that they can practice their belief as long as it does not interfer with ours. That if their is any conflict, they must bow down to our culture.
